Differential was rebuilt just a few thousand miles ago. 1955 1st, with original rear end. Presently has a 3:90 want to go to something higher. Thanks.

It is an easy job to remove the gears inside the carrier & replace them when you get ready to put the axles back in. If you can replace a ring & pinion satisfactorily you shouldn't have any trouble putting the gears back in the carrier.

The technical site is very good except that I have the open drive shaft. Is the rear end made the same?

It's not really a job for a newbie. I've done a bunch of them and consider myself lucky that only one of them howled. In my paid wrenching days, it was the senior guys with master ratings that did unit repair on the bench. The apprentices laid under the trucks and pulled the gearboxes and third members and got all dirty. 1951 3800 1-ton"Earning its keep from the get-go"In the DITY Gallery1962 261 (w/cam, Fenton headers, 2 carbs, MSD ign.), SM420 & Brown-Lipe 6231A 3spd aux. trans, stock axles & brakes. I called them last month & there price is the same. They're price is of course higher if you bring the vehicle or entire rear end. They did fantastic work & removing the my center section was pretty easy. Good luck..

What center sections and what are the ratios that might be available? | | | | Joined: Oct 2019 Posts: 94 59 Apache 3100 | 59 Apache 3100 Joined: Oct 2019 Posts: 94 | as far as i know 3.38 is the only other gear set available. This guy below is a fellow stovebolter too. I'd ask him if you have specific questions. https://www.ebay.com/itm/276824024320If you drive in the foothills or mountains, you might want to keep you 3.90 gears in there. I know my well used 235 prefers the original gears & I'm going back to them. Good luck.
