I’ve posted 4 times today and my post count has not gone up.
EDIT: This post makes five!

It’s happening again. Posting with the post count not moving. Look at the screen print and the post counts on my post and subsequent test post. I deleted the test.

Phil, are you sure? Each individual post has the same post count. So If I posted twice here a screen shot would show the same post count on both.
[on edit] this one is 9042 for me.

And this one should increment it by one.
[on edit] and as expected it did.

Kevin,
Phil made 2 posts in different threads after the post above and his post count did not increase. He's stuck at 3793.

Looking at his list of posts, I see 190 pages. A full page has 20 posts. The last page has 19 posts. So, post count should be 189*20+19 = 3799 headscratch

It looks like the software stores the post count with your profile and doesn't recalculate and update it after every post. Do you have multiple windows or tabs open to the stovebolt page at the same time? Do you have the stovebolt page open on both your phone and desktop?

Also, are you getting the unexpected error after posting? (it just happened to me) That crash may happen before the post count is updated so no increase..

I do get the error code frequently, but not with every post. I think I had a "clean" post on that second post of mine in this thread where I did get the post count bump up. We'll see what happens with this one.

[on edit] "clean" post on this one and the post count did go up.

Maybe you're on to something there Gord.

I did get the error and I was thinking the same that the error had something to do with it. Lets see with this one.

No error and the count went up. 3,795.

Edit: this post went up too, 3,796. I’ll keep track of my post count and see what happens after I get that next error.

I wouldn't worry about it. You are not doing anything wrong. The stovebolt page does not make a big issue about the number of posts you have made; there is no reward for making a large number of posts.

Exactly, Gord. I had that same thought earlier. I'm pretty sure your thought about the posting error is the culprit, but no big deal. It's just kind of annoying to get that error occasionally. It'll be nicer when UBB gets that fixed.

Yes, the crash is annoying. Will it happen when I hit "post reply" now?

edit: yes it did and the post count did not increment.

In reality, the monthly update should fix the post count. I’m not worried but just wanted to bring it to the powers to be. It may be another clue into what is causing the error.

Just posted in the Radio forum, it errored out and my post count didn’t go up, so I’m sure it’s related.

Here is the post

EDIT: this post errored out and again the count didn’t go up!

I think we have established that when the "fatal error" occurs, the post count does not increment. I'm sure that the software guys are working on fixing this issue. I think this thread should be closed.

Each month, when we do maintenance, the post counts drop. As far as the post count beig affected by the error, that wouldn't surprise me at all. The developers have been repeatedly notified about the error. I can only assume they are working on it, but the incremental update they promised months ago still hasn't come out.

Thanks Paul.

Also, there are a number for forums that get purged regularly (Swap Meet, and Spoon) and I've seen the total number of posts drop. I don't think the Spoon posts count for individuals anyway.

Phak1, maybe when you were checking is about the same time I was doing some cleaning out here and there. Especially as I am moving things from my PC to John's (with the idea that we'll end up with just the one). Only one to keep up with then. smile

I don’t believe that was the cause, because I posted four times this morning, right after the error and the count didn’t go up.

I do agree with Gord, there is no sense in continuing this thread since it’s a UBB software issue.
