Hello truck lovers -:) I have a 1960 235 that was put in my truck years ago, and it has the front mount in the cross member with no metal top over the rubber mount. My 52 Chevy had a metal cover on it. I ordered the rubber part because the old one has kinda melted away over the years, the question is did they stop putting metal over the rubber.
Thanks for the help.
Mike

I think the cover probably disintegrated. It's needed to prevent the rubber from softening up from oil exposure. I found a 1958 235 that had the complete mount on it including the cover, although it was set up for use in an earlier truck with a 47-53 bell housing. I believe you need the cover, available from the usual suspects.

Hello Kevin it definetly disintegrated from oil exposure it's in the very front of the engine below the timing chain cover, I couldn't find the metal cover with two holes where it bolts up to the very front cross over where the engine sets. I guess it being a 235 those two holes should be the same as a 53 truck engine. Do you know where I could get one. Thanks for any help.
Chevs of the 40s; Jim Carter; The Filling Station; Classic Parts of America; Ebay; Eckler's all list the mount and cover.

Hello Otto thank you, I gues I should have asked to begin with does the same metal cover that goes over the rubber work with all 235 inline 6 engines. I looked on classic parts website and they don't list one, but I did find the metal part on ebay but they only went to 1955 1st series. Thanks so much.
Mike - It sounds like when your 1960 235 migrated into your truck they kept the 1960-62 style front motor mount instead of converting to the earlier style metal shielded mount. Give this earlier thread a read that give more details on the 1960-62 mount. Those did not have a metal shield to protect from oil contamination and are rare to find a usable one. Most folks need to have theirs revulcanized as is discussed in that thread to reuse in the existing installation.
I seem to recall that there was a recent conversation on converting the 1960-62 front mount to use the earlier metal shielded mount, but I can't seem to locate it at the moment. I will keep looking tomorrow.

Mike - I found that recent thread on the question of converting the front mount from the 1960-62 style to the earlier multi-piece style mount HERE. Looks like there are solutions to reinstall your engine with a more available AD style mount instead of trying to find a good replacement or revulcanizing your old 1960-62 mount. Hope this is helpful.

Post a picture of your mount...the 55.2-59 trucks used the "bird leg" front motor mounts similar to this V8 mount (I don't think they reproduce the 6-cylinder setup).
Mike B - mikeg1955's later 1960 235, transplanted into his earlier 1952 Chevy AD Series truck, has the below pictured engine front mount plate and front mount in place of the original style metal sandwiched front mount used in '52. Bird leg front engine mounts won't work in his application unfortunately.
If mikeg1955 is still looking for a 1960-62 style replacement mount I found one used (but looks to be serviceable) being offered on ebay that he may want to check out:
Used 1960-62 front engine mount - Description says "283" but is the same mount for both the 6 cylinder and V-8 engines for those years (GM# 3763767)

Dan, I'm confused...mikeg1955 first post says he has a 1960 235 [engine] in his truck, which I assumed is the one in his signature "1955 second series 3200"...did I miss something?

Mike B - Good catch sir! My mistake in saying the 1960 235 was in a '52 (mikeg1955 said something about owning a 1952 Chevy which I mistook for the truck being discussed) - duh. I see now that the '60 235 is in his "1955 second series 3200". It sounds like it was installed using the 1960 style mount, but no way to confirm without some pictures from mikeg1955.
That being said, I think you are correct in that he can use the Task Force style "birds legs" front engine mounts as long a the 1960 235 has the mount bosses on the block. He could eliminate the 1960 style single center front mount then.
Perhaps mikeg1955 could post some pictures of his existing mount and engine so we can be sure we are giving the best correct advice going forward. My apologies for any misunderstandings.
