Had a p/s bracket built by buffalo enterprises years ago and several people who have seen my engine are say my configuration is backwards. The p/s pump should have the belt running off the water pump/harmonic balancer not the alternator - so they say?
What should be and what works are two different things. If it works without squealing and you’re happy with it, that is all that matters.

A girl could say that having an alternator and a power steering pump on a '52 truck is backwards, no matter how the belts were run.

I'll get on the "Agree" band wagon too! Looks good, functional and well thought out.

That is a stout looking bracket. Like others if it works, it works..

The argument for it being "backwards" is valid. The belt from crankshaft to water pump to alternator has a small contact patch and tight radius at the alternator. That small contact patch & tight radius is then duplicated on the second belt to drive the power steering pump. This would be more likely to slip at the alternator when demand was placed on the power steering pump. If the belts were changed to run from crankshaft to water pump to power steering pump and then power steering pump to alternator the large pulley on the power steering pump would be much less likely to slip while the total load on the alternator pulley would go way down.

Big wheels should turn small wheels, generally speaking.

Since the drive pulley at the crankshaft is usually the biggest one in the system, all the accessories are turning faster than crankshaft speed. That can lead to problems such as water pump cavitation and overspeeding of a generator if the pulley ratios are dramatically altered from the original design. Fortunately, alternators are designed to run at several times engine speed, so they don't pose much of a concern when they replace a generator. That's why an alternator is able to charge a battery at idle peed, something most generators can't do.
