I was tearing down my 216 for rebuild and noticed there were year dates cast inside each bay of the crankcase. Found the same thing on another 216 and a later 235.
The pics show the year cast into the driver's side of the crankcase. Casting codes sometimes give you a range of years and the date code near the starter needs a cheat sheet to determine the year and only gives you the last digit of the year.
