I just picked up this 1954? GMC 100. It needs a lot of things done to it, so I hope you folks won’t mind me asking a few questions along. It’s on the lift now , so pictures won’t be too good for sure. Thanks ahead for any help getting this truck back to “as original” as I can.

Is there anyway to tell if my engine and transmission is original to this cab. The serial numbers match on the engine and transmission (Hydramatic). I think four numbers match
On the engine and the drivers door VIN plate also.

Welcome to Stovebolt! What makes you unsure of the 1954 model year??? Your question on the matching serial numbers would be better asked in the General Truck Talk forum as a starting place. wink

To help you navigate and best use the different forums in Stovebolt, give this helpful guide a read through before posting more please. The Welcome Centre is the place to first introduce yourself and your truck, then move to the technical forums for specific questions and discussions.

Your truck looks great! Looking forward to seeing and hearing more about it. thumbs_up

There is no correlation between engine serial number and chassis (door tag) serial number on GMC trucks. The best you could do is verify that the casting dates on pieces like the engine block and head fall within the build dates for 1954 GMCs. The matching tags on the engine and HydraMatic says they left the factory as a set.

'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12
'52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.
