Our 1955 2nd series truck is a stock 1/2 ton with 235/SM420. It was bought for $450 in 1998 and restored in Oregon in 1998/99. The owner kept an extensive log of work done, but it wasnโ€™t a full resto. And that log stayed with the truck. Unfortunately, there were no photos of it prior to restoration.

It was on-sold and stayed in the US until that owner brought it to New Zealand and sold it about 2007. The next owner kept it until we purchased it in 2015.

After we got it, I did a lot of stuff, including full re-wire, new Dutchman axles, and currently a full engine rebuild after it burnt a valve and cracked the head.

The engine has had previous work done but some of it was dubious quality. Probably when the truck was towards the end of its life and it was just kept running. Now itโ€™s time to do it properly.

Gearbox is fine with a broken indent spring being the only repair.

It did breakdown once -- luckily close to home after a long trip. That was a broken roll pin on the distributor shaft.

The truck is no show queen but itโ€™s in great shape and it has stood up well since it was done in Oregon. Iโ€™m looking forward to many more happy miles in it.

Nice looking truck, and welcome. I imagine you donโ€™t see too many old Chevys driving around. How did you end up with it? Were you looking for something specific, or did it fall into your lap?

Hi Paul

NZ has a pretty strong following for classics. Some are left over from when they were sold new at dealerships,
Climate and use has taken its toll on most of those.

Ex US cars are being imported regularly and thereโ€™s plenty available. British and Australian classic cars are very common as well as the likes of VW Beetles. Military trucks and jeeps etc are pretty common too.

So us โ€œBoomersโ€ do pretty well when it comes to burning gasoline.๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€
Probably the biggest PITA is shipping costs for parts etc.

My truck was advertised in a classic car magazine about 4 hrs from where I live. I remember driving it home and not having a sore back at the end. Gotta love those big old springy bench seats.
That trip was when I realised a bit more money was going to be spent

Hi John

Thanks for that. To be honest, after eight or so years Iโ€™m still 50/50 about it.

I like the blue, but would prefer a colour more original to the vehicle, especially with a nice patina. But it came with the truck and
Iโ€™m not about to change it because I hate sanding, canโ€™t spray paint and half the time I really like it๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜
