Not sure if this is a "driveline" or "interior" subject. Anyhoo.....Have a friend with a '52 3100 who has reached out to me regarding replacing his speedometer cable. He is also running a 235 with an SM420. I've gone online and find a bunch of black plastic casing and quite a few of the original style with metal casing which is similar to the original design. Which is better? And who would you recommend as a source? Also, is 69"-70" the correct length?

Craig, snapshot below is from the 1929-57 Chevy Master Parts book with dimensions and part detail info. A replacement cable assembly in the 68-70"length range will fit his needs. Lots of choices out there, from plastic cable housing to steel as you mentioned. If he wants "original appearance" go with the steel housing. Otherwise the others should prove sufficient for regular use. (Just my opinion)

The metal cable is much better than the plastic. It is more flexible & can be routed easier. t is worth the extra cost. I always get mine from Classic Parts in Riverside , Mo.
