Try searching “rubber truck bed mat” on the internet. Various ones available at Amazon, Home Depot, etc. I roll mine up and leave it on garage floor under front of truck. Good wheel stop guide when parking.
What about the sides and the front of the bed though? That is what I struggle with trying not to scrape.
50shep, As what DES67 says. I have heavy rubber mat on the bed, rolled up against the cab, when not in use. It will not protect the insides of the side panels, just the bed itself. Custom cut thin plywood panels for the side panels? Maybe this is why I will probably never paint my truck.

I’ve had a plan for 9 years to paint my daily driver. Mainly to help preserve it. This was the Summer I planned on getting it done. Well, Summer is over and Fall is upon us in Illinois, and I’ve got some “accent” painting done, like bumpers, light housings, mirror brackets, wheels, dash, etc but not main body. I too think about using it after painting, but that’s what trucks are for. Even a brand new one is more fun after that first scratch.

If you frequently load rough stuff in the truck and want heavy protection, stall mats are thick, heavy and almost indestructible, the 3/4" mats are not for the faint of heart. Look for horse stall mats.

That is a great pic, but a truck of that vintage should only be hauling proper bales! Oh the ignominy of round balers!! ;-P
My '49 has short stakes in the stake pockets and I just hang 3/8" plywood from those down the sides and across the front. A couple screws each side does the trick and a sheet on the floor. I've hauled concrete and all sorts of rough stuff with nary an (extra) scratch.
PapaDisco, Great idea to use plywood to protect the bed panels. I assume you and your pup go to Downtown Bakery in Healdsburg for lunch, after those heavy loads.
Those short stakes look like they're earning their keep.

Trimmed some trees today, so will be hauling some more branches and brush with mine again tomorrow.
Rich - Don't forget to post some pics. Which truck are you using for the haul???

Ended up not getting it done today. Probably next week now. I'll be using the '59. It will look the same as the picture that's already in my gallery, in case I don't take a new one. There's probably one earlier in this thread as well.

Ol' Roy is once again plying the highways and byways of Metro Atlanta after a few months in dry dock for his over-heating problem.
I've put a hundred plus miles on him and the temperature doesn't even pretend to creep over 180. I hauled a small load of firewood out to my mom's over the weekend.
I'll drive him to work tomorrow and Friday to put another couple hundred miles on him.
Now I have to Marine Tex that block crack seep and install the rebuilt speedometer.

The Green truck isn’t working hard but it’s doing important work! It hauled the 4 wheeler and other gear to deer camp. Its sibling, the Dodge dually delivered the hunting trailer (diy hunting camper with shower, kitchen and quarters for 4). Great season so far.
Not hauling, but definitely using my truck. Take off the rear and one of the side boards and it makes a nice big workbench for cutting plexiglass to winterize the screen porch for outside potted plants.
About 2 minutes after I took this picture a gray fox walked past about 2 feet to the other side of the truck. He/she comes by daily to get a drink of water from a pot my wife keeps under a gutter downspout. I've got a great picture of the fox, but it isn't Stovebolt oriented.

Couldn’t find the driving report thread. This one works, anyway.
Last Sunday, had a project that required a trip to the farm store (which also has a lumberyard). Such a nice day that I decided to take JW.
Ended up selecting a 12 ft piece of door casing and some screws and took it to check out. The lumberyard has a saw and I figured they could make a 4 ft piece and an 8 ft piece. I was informed by more than one teenage employee that they are only “allowed” to cut things in half. Since I needed to cut a whole bunch of 16 inch pieces, that wasn’t going to work.
I was left no choice but to tie it down with twine and a big floppy 6 ft section hanging over the tailgate. Luckily it’s like - 4 mile trip through mostly countryside and I was able to get that done. I did discover a notable lack of tie down points.
As per usual, I failed to get a “loaded” pic. But here’s one right after hauling my materials into the garage. Truck started easy and ran great.
Cool story and thanks for the picture. We will get you trained up on "content" pictures yet - LOL!

Used my '52 GMC 152 to haul home our Christmas tree today. SWMBO always wants to get ours on opening day so she can pick the best one. Sorry, I didn't think about pictures until it was unloaded.

It is 9' tall and still bundled up. Sitting in a bucket of water on the back porch. I carried it over there once and am not likely to carry it 2 more times.

JW51, your story about the 12 ft door casing reminded me of back in the day when I was working with my dad. He had a '51 GMC 1 ton that had a pipe rack bolted to the right front fender and a chain vise on the right rear of the bed. When we hauled 20' sticks of pipe to a job, they got loaded on the rack that of course blocked the passenger door. I had to crawl in the driver's side, over the pile of stuff in the center of the seat to the right side (my first task every spring when school let out in the spring was to clean the stuff that had migrated to the right side of the seat so I had a place to sit.) Then the reverse when we got to the jobsite to unload.

Just got back from a 150 mile round trip fishing trip in Sweet Pea, my '50 3100, with a long time friend who just last week had his innards plumbed back together after successful colorectal surgery. A long and arduous adventure that deal is. I have a heavy jon boat full of a bunch of accessories required by real fisherman, and Sweet Pea rides so much better with that amount of tongue weight. We stopped for coffee afterwards and it turned into a one truck car show which I always enjoy. A very good day indeed.

Carl, that is a good day for sure! I was about to ask if you caught any fish.....but realized it really doesn't matter. Now, I like crappie and bass fillets along with bream and fried Channel Cat as well as the next Country Boy. But oftentimes, it's the trip and time on the water with a friend that counts.

I have the week off from work, so I decided to catch up on some Honey Do's . Thor and I made a trip to Home Depot this morning. The trip was not without it's trials and tribulations. The passengers side front brake started dragging to the point that it wouldn't roll. A small "Field Expedient Repair" and we were back on the road. It's amazing how little room $400.00 worth of materials take up.

Drove Ol' Roy to work today thanks to HotRod Lincoln who helped me get the original voltage regulator working over the weekend.
Got some free rails for my zig zag split rail fence in the front of the property.
I also got to see the instruments while driving home in the dark since I got the lights wired up to the taillight terminal.
