I am looking at the TDS for Wanda paint. It says flash coat between coats is 5-10 minutes which I understand. Then it says Flash Before Clearcoat 15-20mins. So after 15mins of base drying it must be cleared? I am trying to use the same gun so it has to be cleaned etc. I am just trying to figure out how much I can do at one time..I assumed there was a much bigger window between base and clear, maybe I was wrong. thanks
I wouldn't worry very much on gun cleaning if you are going from base to clear, especially with solid colors. Rinse with thinner/reducer and spray through the tip, repeat, load with clear.

Typically, you can wait on your basecoat to dry before applying clear. Unless you want a wet on wet application, then follow the flash times. BTW, flash is different than drying.
I'm not familiar with all paint companies tds, but think you want to wait for base to be dry to touch (flashed) before clear coating. Flash time is going to be dependent upon temperature , humidity and air movement,15 minutes may not be near enough time for diy paint job in garage.Pat66
When I was teaching collision repair back in the late 1990s, base/clear was a relatively new technology, so my input might be out of date. Back then, a 30 minute minimum flash time was recommended, with a max of a few hours. If a basecoat was allowed to sit overnight before the clear was applied, color sanding with 1000 or 1500 grit and water was recommended. Jerry

So, wet on wet is another method of applying the clear coat. Basically you let the base coat flash like any other coat, then apply the clear coat. Some painters think the chemical bond is better than waiting for the base to dry. It all depends on what the product allows. This is where the product specific TDS helps.
