BC Bolters slip back in time! How does 34 cents for a gallon (Imp) of gas? Sure!! The BC Bolters met again in January (we've been meeting monthly since February 2007). Despite snow warnings and unseasonably cold temperatures, about 30 of us decided to brave the elements and venture forth to Abbotsford. Read on!

I've been chasing rabbits in the Welcome Centre and DITY, and I come across some fun reads. I especially liked this find with the gas pump and, since a bunch of us as sweltering in the heat, seeing that neat snow falling and a Stovebolt.

When I started selling gasoline in Nashville Tennessee in 1962, regular gas was 28.9 cents a US gallon. 100 octane premium was a nickel more! Jerry

One elderly customer always ordered "5 gallons"- - - - - -and he knew the price right down to the penny. If I ran a couple of cents over he would refuse to pay the extra.

My brother and argue about the price per gallon when we started driving, he is a year and a half older at 83, i say 20cents he says 17. My father was a Methodist mininister and he had 3 chrches to preach at and one was near Hunnington In. and 2 stations across rge street were always waring so he would drive from the one church near to get gas hoping the were still feuding a couple more miles further from home.

I if can talk car for a moment ... tisk tisk ... but it's about the price of gas. My first car, a VW bug. The gas gauge didn't work. Being such a chicken and not wanting to run out of gas, I got gas every 100 miles and filled it up. My odometer worked. That was a great $100 car. And my older brother was a VW nut ... he found me the car.

Early VWs didn't even have a gas gauge- - - - -just a "reserve" section in the tank accessed by turning a handle on the floorboard. I think it held a half gallon or so- - - - -enough to drive about 15 miles at the bug's normal 30 MPG. My Harley has the same setup. Jerry

I had a 1960 Beetle with the floor lever. The biggest problem was forgetting to reset the lever.

Back in 1968, I was driving my Model A thru Texas and we got the pickup truck price of 25c/gallon. In SoCal in the mid 60's used to just get $1 worth of gas. The tank only held 10 gallons, and that $1 of gas would last me at least a week. I don't recall the price being 25c, but I recall that dollar got me about 3 gallons.
