Hey all,

Working on a 1954 3600
In the process of repairing/replacing the Support Bearing and Rubber Cushion that is located between the 2 halves of the driveshaft in the center of the truck.
Ive found a few posts on here from Denny and Dusty53 that list replacement part #s etc for the bearing (88107) so I'm pretty confident in accomplishing the replacement.

However, as i was disassembling the unit i found something I'm unsure about.
The support bearing is housed in a 2 part metal shield that seemed to be press fit over the bearing. I got this open without much fuss, but found in addition to the bearing inside, there was a very thin (like 1/32") metal washer, (maybe a shim?) on either side of the bearing, but still contained inside the two parts of the shield. Both of these shims? were loose and able to move around pretty freely between the face of the bearing and the shield halves.
Nothing I've read online or can find in the FAM or 1954 Shop Manual seem to mention these metal shim? washers.

What is their purpose?
Do i just slip them back in loose like they were when i reassemble the unit? or are they supposed to be tight somehow? Do I even need them?

Plan to pick up a new bearing at my FLAPS today and would like to get this mystery solved so i can get reinstalled and back to driving.
Thanks in advance
