I’ve got a 1951 GMC 248, the spring for the intake heater is missing and I can’t seem to figure out the name of it or a part number. It’s the spring that moves the diverted for header heat into the intake manifold. Finger is pointing to where the spring goes in one picture.

I also am missing the bracket that holds the throttle cable that goes to the dash throttle knob. From my service manual it looks like it should be held in place by one of the machine screws that holds the carb together. Circled in red in the other picture. I could probably make one out of some sheet metal, but it would be great to get an original one.

Maybe I need to buy a master parts book, but the book is $70 on ebay.

Both parts and missing completely so I can’t really post a picture of them. Attached pictures of where they should be.

Thanks!

Master Parts Book is available as a .PDF file from 'Bolter SlimSix

GMC part number for the spring is 838573. Chevy's used the same part. Available here.

Is that a Zenith carb you have pictured??? If it is, the 1950 GMC Parts Book shows the choke cable bracket mounted to the carb top section over the choke plate rod. Screenshot of the upper carb in exploded diagram below.

This is what is on my carb. It was just rebuilt by Larry Isgro Carburetors in New York. He does a lot of these Zenith carbs and maybe has a bracket for you. He works Monday - Thursday. 516-783-1041. If that does not work out, there are several options to find one. Place a part wanted post here, contact other carb rebuilding services and ask, talk to people like Tom Meyer, Mother Trucker and others who seem to have a plethora of parts. Beat every bush and one will turn up.

Thanks. That part right above your thumb is what I’m looking for. It looks new so I’ll give him a call next week for sure.

yeahoner, I think Gdads51 (Moderator for the Swap Meet) is going to move this whole thread over to Truck Parts Wanted so it'll all go together. He's working on his Grandpa's '51 this afternoon and will get to moving it later today. I see you got it listed in TPW. For the time being, I can link that post over to here so if anyone has any questions about it all, they can look here Having the picture helped a lot I imagine.

Thanks. I appreciate it. Hope I haven’t inadvertently done anything against the rules. I’m just grateful to have some hope of getting the right piece. I had been thinking of modifying a harley part to make it work, and it wouldn’t have looked quite right.

Oh no. You did nothing wrong. We just try to make things the *most visible* ... not only for this particular time but for others who show up later. (And I just really like having hot links ... that does make things easier.) You've good. thumbs_up Actually, I'm real impressed by the help in here in the Name the Part Forum . This Forum has proved to be pretty helpful. shake

yeahoner - Sorry it's taken a bit for me to get back to your topic in here. I think what's here can stay as it's all about identifying what you wanted/needed. I peeked at your Truck Parts Wanted ad and I think it's at a good starting point. Many thanks to Twin Jimmys for posting his picture and lead to help ID the right part and a possible source. I will post a reply in your parts wanted ad including the full page exploded view carb diagram, just in case it may help folks and you find that part. smile

As far as this thread goes, I think we can mark this one as "part ID's solved"! thumbs_up
