Had to order a part from Jim Carter (rear main seal, rubber) so called them to make sure it works for a '54 engine as their web site doesn't list it. Was told by the sales person that Jim Carter gives 10% discount to veterans. But , you have to mention it.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!! Even though I was told by the salesman that Vets get a 10% discount, the Turkey didn't give me a discount!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't know if it was true or not.

Jim Carter did advertise a veteran's discount sale a while back. The ad said they needed an ID sent to them.

Just a note here to confirm that Jim Carter does give and honor a 10% discount to Active Duty, Military Retirees and Veterans. The key to that as Kevin mentioned above is they must see or be provided a copy of your DOD issued ID and they need to establish an account in their system to enter/save that confirmation. Once they have the ID confirmation, you don't need to provide it again. Their on line registration/order systems doesn't have the ability for them to see your ID when you sign up. If you aren't local, give them a call or email and ask how to get them a copy of the ID to lock that info into your account.

I actually went in person and shopped in the store about a week ago and was helped with my account, showed them the ID for confirmation and got the discount. The gal, IIRC her name is Cammie, set up my account while I was there with the ID verification saved so now I can place an order on line and still get the discount.

While there, I had a nice conversation with Jim Carter himself, got a freebie glass bowl fuel pump bowl securing bail from Jimmie (reportedly Jim Carter's right hand man on parts identification who I met him for the 1st time that day) and all the parts I had on my wish list.

To top it off, a few days later I got a small package in the mail from Jim with the below note and cool can wrap because he said he forgot to give it to me before I left the shop that day. Great folks and great shop IMHO!

We got one of those "wraps" in the mail earlier in the year. Very interesting thingamabob. I kept the paper (right here next to my pencil sharpener) that went with it. It's to remind me of asking him where he ordered them. LOL I thought they'd be fun as possible give-aways at Stovebolt events. With a Stovebolt logo, motto, etc. of course. One of these days.... Or, I'll pass it on to you, Dan, as a "next time you see him" ... as in The Round-up in the fall.

For those of us "non-retiree" vets who don't have a military ID, I wonder if they would honor a DD 214? The closest thing I've got to a military ID card with my picture on it is my VA medical card, and some of the patient info on that needs to be guarded pretty closely.

Stewart- - - -just as a point of information- - - -that rubber seal DOES NOT work on an engine made for a rope seal. It fits the groove just fine, but the depth of the groove is incorrect for any sealing to be done. The engine I'm working on for you will be a moot point- - - -since I'm machining it for a full circle lip seal that will never leak.

Jerry, Next time I drop in to Jim Carters place, I will ask the question and post an update on what he says for ID requirements.

Jerry, Here in Alaska, when you show the DMV your DD214, they will make a notation on your driver's license that you're a veteran. Tennessee has the same kind of program. LINK, so the next time you renew your driver's license, remember to take your DD214 with you.

I don't know, but I'll bet If you sent Jim Carter a copy of your DD214 and a picture of your driver's license, they'd sign you up for the discount.
