I've found a place to get bunches of parts for our pickups and trucks (and I guess cars) from a place called "Jerry's Salvage Yard" in Oklahoma City, OK. But he only accepts cash, Zelle, Apple and Cash App. Here's the problem; found some things for a GREAT price, but tried to pay him through Zelle with two different names and emails and was told they were invalid emails. So, I was wondering if anyone has had dealings with this guy and is he legit. Sure could use some advise on this guy soon so any help would be nice. Thank you.

Google says The salvage yard closed in 2019.
On his Facebook page I notice in all replys to buy something, he says to check your inbox. He doesn't give a location of his business.
His parts photos backgrounds are all different, indicating he is borrowing photos from others.

I'm guessing this guy is a scammer.

Martin (Justhorsenaround) lives close to OK City. If you send him a PM he would probably be able to ask around and see if the guy is legitimate- - - - -particularly since he's probably still got a few friends in the local law enforcement community.

Stewart, From what I could see of Jerry's salvage yard FB page, it "looks" like a legitimate business. That said, I would recommend following Jerry's (HRL) suggestion and reach out to Martin (Justhorsenround) as he would probably help a fellow Bolter out by checking into the business. The salvage yard guy definitely seems to be a little light on sharing information in publicly viewable posts. The payment issue with invalid emails is usually a clear sign that something may not be on the up and up. Be careful!!!

I second HRL’s suggestion to PM Martin, I sure he has some good thoughts on this business.
I was also corrected by Martin that there is no A in his handle, it’s “Justhorsenround”.

Wayne, the Googled article I think you read about Jerry's Auto Salvage" closing in 2019 actually applies to a company in Minnesota. Looks like it isn't the same business.

Instead of inundating Martin with PM's ... Maybe he could answer here where all of us playing along at home can know, too.

FWIW, been involved with Chevy truck restoration for years in this general area. I do not recall seeing or hearing nor ever hearing any of my buddies mention this business. So, as others have indicated be careful out there.

This wrecking yard came up on another forum where I used to participate. It was maybe more than 8 years. Just me, but I wouldn't try to send any money until / unless somebody we know can validate the operation.

FWIW, in another part of the world what appeared to be an abandoned wrecking yard outside Roswell, NM which was chock full of old cars/trucks and for which I was not able to find current ownership has for all intents and purposes vanished. You could see hundreds of vehicles (stacked at least two high) from the 40s, 50s, 60s and maybe a few from the early 70s but they're gone now. Too bad. Roswell isn't an area where rust is a problem and many still had original paint. My guess is somebody either hauled them off for scrap metal (which given the distance they'd have to be shipped would be very costly) or got the county to condemn the place and sell the stuff at auction. There are still a few remaining (shells at best and damaged), one or two really beaten old heavy trucks and what may have once been a concrete mix truck chassis or a tow truck chassis that has been stripped along the distant back fence but they're nothing much and tracks in the dirt make me think those are in the process of being moved. Looked like the property would have been between 20 and 25 acres, maybe a little more.

Another one in Alamogordo was sold and cleared out about 5~6 years ago. Large place, easily 30+ acres (maybe as large as 50 acres), many trucks, most in 50s and 60s years and most looked to be 1/2 ton type. Usable stuff for the right buyers. It was still in operation (seldom saw customers there) and for sale but the price was plus the land is not zoned as residential, is far from fire stations/hospital so use had to be commercial or industrial and any new construction would have to be fire resistive or the insurance cost would eat you alive. (Alamogordo is not close to any recycling plant) Now looks like somebody is building a large something or other there, but all the vehicles are gone. My bet would be another Wal-Mart, Sam's Wholesale Club, etc. But who knows...could be a factory of some sort, an auto dealership and it could be a suitcase college or trade school.

My point in mentioning these 2 is that land is valuable and it doesn't matter what is sitting on it. Certainly not old vehicles.

That must have been there in Roswell before '91 or after '99. I was in Carlsbad during that time; drove my pickup all over that area. That place would have been picked through BIG time!!!!!!!!!!

I'd bet all the money I could get my hands on it was there long before 1991. It had that look, you know...ramshackle tin shed with junk pouring out of it everywhere. The sort of shed that looked like it might have been built before somebody learned to draw plans, a small beat-up office connected to the shed with the door flopped open and connected only by the bottom hinge, an ancient 7UP machine tucked under an overhang that was flopping up and down in the breeze, a drive-across vehicle scale that looked like several people had been digging around trying to steal it (before they figured out how much it and the concrete pad weighed). I would be surprised if this place hadn't been there since at least 1950. Too many really old vehicles. That isn't the only yard around Roswell as you probably remember. There are several over on the south side, all in the city limits, and much smaller. Some look like they occupy what was once a back yard. Everyone I talked to said the guy had died a long time ago and the story was he left no family. It is outside the city limits so just county property. Maybe somebody wants to turn this into little ranchettes or something. A fellow bought a wrecking yard like this south of Dallas, had a landing strip for small aircraft built and sold lots to people. I doubt he got rich but he didn't have to live in the city.

Yes, that's him. If you scroll down to his June 19 post with a number of pictures, top left corner is a dark tan bench seat, GMC chrome grill sitting in front of a motorcycle; in that group of +19, he has a set of wing windows (chrome) that I asked about. He said $100 + $50 for shipping. Would have been a FANTASTIC deal! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! Mother.Trucker

If you are looking at Oklahoma salvage yards, it has been awhile since I was last there but in a little town of Fairview, there was an overlooked yard that had several old GM trucks my last visit. They were very easy to deal with and very reasonable. http://www.fairviewautosalvage.com/ There is another pretty close that is much more visited. They are on I think 3rd generation of the family running it. They have a lot of stuff but the section with the older cars and trucks, they encourage you to stay away from as they want to sell those vehicles "complete". Bud's Salvage in Aline. https://www.facebook.com/budsok/ When I was younger, a buddy and I would take a day off of work and just have a blast running all over Bud's pulling parts and looking through their storage buildings. They had a wall of picture of cars they have brought in over the years. Good times!

Stewart2, Just a note to say a big Thank You for posing the question and all fellow 'Bolters that did the digging and follow up to ID Jerry's Salvage Yard as a scammer and source to avoid. Let's all continue to be diligent and report a known or suspected scammer to help keep our hard earned money in our pockets or going to verified good vendors!

Bolters taking care of Bolters! thumbs_up
