I'm currently fiddling with the doors on my '49 Panel and I'm a little baffled by how the rear window guide mounts inside the door. I don't think the guide was in the door or if it a was then it was in a box that came with it... so I ordered some aftermarket one (see pic).

I see where the lower two holes mount but I have no idea how the top end mounts. I don't see any holes that align. I've scoured the internet, the manuals and everything else I could think of and I came up empty. Other than continuing to scratch my head and scratch my butt.... anyone have a truck at a point that they could shoot me a picture to show the mount? Thanks in advance.

I think what you may need can be seen in the below screenshot from a 1948 Chevy Cab service guide film strip. Yes/No/Maybe So???

Added input - if the upper holes don't align, the channels are side specific so you may have a channel for the left door instead of the right one or vice-versa???

Thanks... I thought I had the correct sides but I'll double check it. I also didn't see any hole in door in the vicinity of the open hole(s) at the top when the lower holes were aligned but I'll double check that as well. The doors are original and maybe someone patched over the holes. I'll feel around on the inside to see if they were welded up. I was afraid maybe a piece was missing, had been cut out or I was totally missing how these things fit.

I gotcha on not seeing a hole for the top mounting from the outside. From re-looking at the first pic I posted and a screenshot (below) from a video I found on line, it looks like the upper part of the channel is mounted to the door from the inside where you can see the indentation on the door edge. Makes sense why the original pic showed the mechanic with a tool pointing to the upper mount location from the door interior. An adjustable viewing mirror would help put eyes on that interior spot. wink

Note: The video did not show the actual channel removal or door interior view.

Ahhh, the plot thickens. Thanks for all the help. I had even taken a quick glance at my '48 to see if I could see a screw head in that general area. Next I was going to pull the door panel off the '48 to see if I could see how it was attached but I figured the rubber channel would obscure my view but I was gonna give it a try.

The truck is at my shop right now but looking thru some pics I recently took of the Altman latch installation I see a few faint spotwelds that may or may not have the mounting provisions. IIRC, the repro part has 2 holes in the top along the channel so maybe one of them aligns with door. I'll try and follow-up on this thread so some other 'bolter down the road can have closure should they have the same issue.

To follow up on this thread, I took a good look inside the door for a hole at the top for the guide (see picture) and low and behold there was actually a small one on a clip at the top of the door in the general area (see picture). I then took the aftermarket guide and mounted it into the door using the lower two screws. The guide actually extends quite a bit above the hole (above the lower window lip on the door) and I could not tell if the existing hole in the door aligned with the second hole down from the top in the guide. From what it looks like to me the clip inside the door that has the hole for the top mount looks to be joggled right above the hole so the guide sits flush with the upper part that is integral to the door. It seems to me that I may have to trim the guide to fit in this recessed/joggled area and then if the hole in the guide doesn't match the hole in the door then I'll need to add a new hole to match and possible weld up the old hole if it is too close to the new hole. I'm gonna disassemble my '48 and see if I can get a good look at that area before start cutting parts to fit.

To close out this thread for future reference, I couldn't see much on my stock '48 with the window installed so I decided to just cut the aftermarket guides to fit. If it ends up not being the right thing to do then I'll just buy new ones. I cutting them just above the second hole on the guide. This allowed the guide to sit in the joggled area on the door frame that looked like it was made for it. With the part trimmed so the guide could sit flush it allowed me to better determine the hole location. It was obvious that the remaining hole in the guide did not line up with the existing hole in the door frame. I marked the location on the guide and had to drill a new hole approx 3/8" below the existing hole. Once I did that the guide fit the door. We'll see if it all works once I get around to installing the glass, mechanism and felt strip.
