I thought a three way 12V vacuum valve would do the trick but having a tough time location one of those. My cable, gear shift mount and knob are MIA.
What's everyone using for replacements? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 116 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 116 | I've found an air valve used in air bag suspension systems. However, I'm not sure if those will switch vacuum or not. They may require a few PSI to accuate.
Two valves with a SPDT switch would run about $60. Might be the way to go.
Every parts place I check tells me the old push-pull cable is NLA. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | Coyote,
I am just curious, what exactly are you looking for. I would have thought a '66 C60 would have had a Eaton two speed electric rear end. I understand the predecessor to the electrics was a vacuum unit, but what is this push/pull cable you mention.

If you are still having problems, try to get a good used one in an old big truck salvage yard.

The push/pull cable will have a 4-port switch on the bottom end. One port is the supply, one for Hi range, one for Low range and one small port for the speedometer 2-speed adapter (mounted to the back of the speedometer).
Like Bill said, try your local big truck junk yard.

The entire cable, from the shifter lever housing to the valve, has been removed and is missing. I can switch the axle by crawling under the truck and switching the 4 port valve where the cable would attach so, if I can locate a cable I'll be set. However, So far all the truck places around here are telling me it's NLA, "switch her over to electric". I have one more place to try in OK about 65 miles north. I'm told they have a good number of old 2 ton chevys.
I just got the new engine running yesterday. Rebuilt SM420 is installed and a new brake, clutch master cylinder awaits installation. She also received some new driveshaft carrier brngs. Now... got to find that cable. | | |
