Salute to our Canadian Bolters salute2
Victoria Day
May 20, 2024

Salute to Canada It's always interesting to read about our friends in the North.

This day is also called:
May Long Weekend | May Long | May Two-Four
May Run | Firecracker Day             (ref Wikipedia)

Salute to Canada
According to Canadian Encyclopedia, (in part), it's a statutory holiday remembered informally as "the twenty-fourth of May,” or “May Two-Four.” Originally a celebration of Queen Victoria's birthday, the holiday now marks Queen Elizabeth II's birthday as well. Victoria Day was established as a holiday in the Province of Canada in 1845 and as a national holiday in 1901. It is observed on the first Monday before 25 May.

We have always thought of it as the Queen's birthday. Victoria BC has a big parade with many US marching bands participating. See linked story below. Some antique trucks are usually in the parade - not just Canadian military trucks.

Unofficial start to camping season with campers and motor-homes jamming the highway out of Victoria for the long weekend.
