I need some help with this one! Seems I have a barn door (drivers side) that should have the square hole for the door switch to mate up to the body side contact plate. I have a set of replacement doors all prepped, painted and ready to install but the driver side door I have only has a round hole where the switch square hole should be. I have searched various sites to see if a later or earlier model had a round switch but cant find anything to explain why there is a round hole. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I considered cutting the square hole but I think there is also a reinforcement plate in the original door. Thanks for any help.

It's not really a switch, but a spring loaded contact plate. Do you have any pictures of what you're dealing with?

Hi Mark, What I have or had originally is just like your picture. I did some research and discovered that the replacement door I have for that side must be from a 53 model that used some sort of conduit as it has a round hole versus the square one. I try and get a picture on Monday when I'm back at the barn. I guess my "fix" will be to cut a square hole and mount the contact plate with sheet metal screws. As a side note I'm still looking for my lower rubber bumper! Thanks for the pic and the response.

It's raining right now otherwise I'd get you a detailed picture. But, I believe the door side plate sits on the surface while the body side sits in a recess.

As for the door bumper, I found one close in dimensions on McMaster. Which is what you see in the picture. I searched this site with no luck, the original post must be lost to time. So I don't have the McMaster part number. I'd have to measure what I have and look it up again.

I haven't found mine yet but I seem to recall that I got it from one of the vendors and the only issue was that it didn't have the rear metal cup that the original one sat in. As for the door I'm going to make a template from another donor door and cut the new door to match. The contact plate is surface mounted so small sheet metal screws should work fine. Try and get some pics this week. I'm busy helping a friend with his 39 ford. Being 74 and growing old doesn't help with getting much done in a hurry.

Here is a close up of the area of discussion. The body plate had disintegrated on mine, so, many years ago, I found some 1/4 plastic and made a new mount. I guess I could've machined it a little nicer. Maybe even made it a little wider.
