I've read many times that there is a VIN number stamped into the frame about two feet back from the front of the driver's side frame rail. Since the engine and cab are not original, I was going to find the frame VIN before I transferred the title.
I looked at as much of the frame rail as I could see through the driver's side fender opening, but didn't see any numbers at all. What side of the frame rail is it on?

| | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 454 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 454 | The AD trucks (47 to 55.1) did not have any "VIN" (no such thing as a VIN in the 50s) number on the frame. The only numbers on the truck were the manufacturer's ID plate on the door post and the engine number on the passenger side of the engine. When your truck was originally titled in the 50's, depending on the state, it would have been titled with one of those two numbers. My 53 was purchased in Cape Giradeau, MO, and was originally titled with the ID number from the door post.

The problem is that the cab is from a 1952 3/4 ton and the title has that ID number on it. I wouldn't really care if the truck was a '47, or a '54, but I'd like to know because there are some differences in the parts used.

what is a heavier art-deco? i just acquired a 41-46 chevy bus. the plate on the side of the cowl is way past reading. forensic science mayby. it has a 195"? wheel base. 2 ton? 7 windows. 28 passenger? i would love to know what year it is. and if anybody feels the need to tell me anything about these things, go ahead on!! i'm all ears. can use all the help i can get!!

Chevy didn't make, what was considered "Heavy Duty" trucks until 1956. Everything before then, (1 1/2, & 2 ton) was considered "Medium Duty". | | |
