Take a stroll through this 1940 Chevrolet Truck document. There is at least one good artist rendering of a cab interior view from the passenger side with door open that may be of some help. Also saw a rendering of a COE cab interior, but that's a touch different than the rest of the Chevy truck line.

This is a 46 with a standard JCarter rubber floor mat, I have a T5 so the shifter is back some, I used alum channel on the door ends as I have sound mats, the floor mat tucks under the channel, it is liftable without undoing the channel to access battery/ mc

Just search for 1940 Chevrolet Truck Interior Pictures and you'll have dozens to look at all at once.

I did Google search the interior. I was just getting awhat looked like close to original with different ranges of custom mixed in. I wanted to see what the interior looked like from factory back in 1940. The links and photos i have received from you guys are great. I purchased my truck from my brother-in-law and the interior was completely stripped out of it. He gave me the interior trim he had and I have identified the location of each piece but I was thinking I was missing the center headliner piece. As far as I can tell there was not one. I am missing the knobs for all of the door and windows cranks, the carpet, the sides kick panels, the headliner, all of the windows rubber and felt track liner and the heater vents pulls. I think that is about it for the interior. I am trying to also figure out the hinge nuts/bolts for the center pop up air vent.

Good luck with your ‘40. Sometimes it good to look through the suppy sources for pictures of the correct parts. After these many years, few are original and things like shift boots, knobs, paint colors etc. will be hard to figure out. Here a list of sources I keep on my “notes” on my computer and phone to refer to for reference and purchases.

I took in that promo material you posted. I took note of the fact that the outside filler neck was feature that was worth singling out…. Were there actually vehicles that had the fill point inside the cabin?

Model T Fords had the tank under the seat. You had to lift the seat cushion off its platform to get at it.

The ‘37 Chevy 1/2 ton tank and filler port is under the passenger side seat. Don’t know about the other same year Chevy model trucks, but my guess is they are the same.

Waveski, 46Sparky's info is accurate for the 1937 Chevy Low Cab trucks as well as the 1936 Low Cab models as they shared the same fuel tank with fuel tank under seat as clarified by 37 GC below. The 1929-41 Chevy Parts book indicates the 1936-37 Chevy High Cab trucks and Canopy Express shared a different tank that appears to have an external port - frame mounted vs in cab mounted.

As noted by member 37 GC below, my information referencing the parts catalog wasn't entirely accurate and could be misleading, so I have edited it accordingly. Thanks! wink

I see what you’re looking at Dan but as is true with cross referencing parts in later publications of the books, it doesn’t always seem to be true to what was original. So I do not understand why they included a 36 on your picture as the model is listed are ‘37’s. To the best of my knowledge. The 36 whether high or low cab, all had the tank between the frame rails in the back. The 37 regardless of the size and there was only a half ton and one and a half ton and variations such as canopy, cab, only, and panel, all had the tank under the seat with the 5050 split to be able to get to the bung. Btw, there was never a high cab 37 as 36 was the transition year early high cab, late, low cab. In 38 and possibly a few very late 37 the seat riser was revised to accommodate the exterior filler behind the passenger side door in the cab. So to answer waveski, yes, the 37 was the only year for the filler bung to actually be inside the cab under the seat.

Larry, I stand corrected sir! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Just to be sure I get what you're saying, to correct what I posted I need to remove the reference to the '37 having a "High" or "Low" cab and that the '37 shared any tank with the '36. Yes/No/Maybe so???

I'm just wanting to remove or correct anything that may misrepresent info on these trucks. Thanks again!

certainly not meaning to be a stinker and I'm still learning little nuances of these trucks too, but you are correct on both counts. If you look at those '36's you posted, they have the fuel filler behind the rear fender. The earlier trucks were very basic with very few variations, as you move into the AD series things started getting much more diverse as to models and options. My '37 is like a basic burger, meat, bun, one pickle slice and squirt of ketchup and mustard...
