Hi folks.

I am asking about this part, that goes under the dash on the 1965 Chevy C10, it helps hold the radio speaker into place in the dash.

I do not know what it is called, I thought I had a photo of one someone had sent me, but I can not find it.

It is the part that goes into the slot that holds it into place.

If anyone has a photo or know what it is called, please post it in here.

I am asking, so I can go find one used as I am pretty sure it is not reproduced.

Thanks.

My 65 still has the original speaker under the dash, it is under cover for the winter but as soon as I can I'll see if I can get a pic of it.

If you can't find an original, you might be able to fabricate something out of steel rod or wire. I've done that before. However I'm quite sure someone here will have one for you.

Woog, Below is a screenshot from an electronic copy of a 1960-66 Factory Assembly Manual. If I understand correctly, I think Item# 5 - Bracket GM# 3843821 is what you seek??? Hope this may be of some help. wink

Gdads51,

Thanks, I'll have to poke around in my manuals and assembly manual and look that up.

Woog, A bit of further searching in GMpartswiki turned up that part# listed in the 1967 Chevrolet Radio Parts Catalog on page 32 - see screenshot below.

The radio application list on the left side of that page shows 112, 129, 141 (TILT). Those application #s are for the 1964, 1965 and 1966 model year trucks. If nothing else, it may help find a donor vehicle/source somewhere. wink

Ah, interesting. Thanks a bunch Gdads51.

I never have any luck on that site, I just don't know how to work it I guess.

I was messing around with the speaker just now trying to wiggle it in, I have no idea how that is supposed to work. I had my radio unit out of the way, took a heater hose loose, but the pesky wiper motor is in the way. Hmmn.

Looking at the Assembly Manual snap I attached above, Just my $.02 worth, but I think if you are trying to slide the speaker in sideways, it might work best going from the glove box side of the dash and sliding to the left. Would mean removing the glove box liner, which would avoid messing with the wiper motor - I think???

The leading edge of the speaker with the bent arm sticking out, that should have a rubber wrap around cushion, should slide along the inner curved edge of the dash it rests against while the back ledge of the speaker metal frame looks like it should slide into a groove in the rear bracket. I have attached another screenshot with the side view of the rear mount in case it may help visualize. Also included another pic from the manual showing the radio install with the rear radio support that attaches to the bottom of the speaker support bracket. A few more tidbits to hopefully help figure the thing out.

Just my opinion, but whoever designed that support bracket made it way too complicated. LOL

Hmnn. Yeah, I have that rubber cushion bit. I guess I'll have to ponder it some more if I ever find that part.

Thanks for all of the replies folks.
