I'm looking at buying a really nice 58 Chevy 60 series truck. It's a 1 1/2 ton truck. Are the cabs on these big trucks the same as a pickup?? Also it has a 261 engine that has a bad rod bearing. Are the heads on the 261's the same as the 235's, or is the 261 a completely different engine??

If it's a 60 series, it's a 2 ton. Cab is the same, except in the floor area, around the transmission.

Hy dlhenk, A 261 is a bored out 235 basically, it was an old hot rod trick to put the head off of a 235 on a 261, it gave you a higer compression ratio, and hence more power. A 261 is the largest displacement engine that will "bolt in" where any 216, or 235 was, making them a much sought after engine for upgrade purposes, hope that helps.

I believe in the archives somewhere this question was asked before and the 261 block has a couple of (steam holes?) that the 235 doesn't have and you can drill those extra couple of holes by using the 261 head gasket as a template to drill the holes in the head. Try the search at top of page. Hope this helps.
