I know someone can answer this for me. Where do I find the engine number on my truck? It is a '39 GMC Cab-Over-Engine.

I have had it for ten years. I finally decided not to build it. I will probably sell it or trade it for a pick-up. However, whatever I do with it I still need a title. Texas requires the engine number for a title before 1955.

I have the goverment bill of sale. It was bought in 1976 for $227.00. It had 38,649.6 miles on it. It has never been driven since. The bill of sale has an ID number on it...C22830585. Does this sound like an engine number or a VIN number?

It belong to the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Mines. The guy I bought it from is a John Tractor dealer. He was going to restore it and haul a restored antique JD tractor with. But he never touched it.

If I do decide to get rid of it, I will place a want ad on Stovebolt to let ya'll have first chance.

Look on the flat boss where the distributor goes...
should be a number and it will also tell you what engine you have...

That should be the engine number if it originally had a 228 engine.
