I have a 53 3100 which has been fitted with a '57 235, with a 4 speed box (Are they all 4 speeds?). It was imported without a flywheel cover on the gearbox. Is this a particular cover for that trans, or will a generic type automatic trans cover fit (T350, etc) ? I am having a hard time getting any info on this, and being in Australia, no-one carries one of these. I have tried Rock auto and a couple of others, but no dice.

Three speed, four speed, and automatic transmissions were offered. I doubt that a cover for an automatic will fit.

Hy Ivanz, the cover for the 53 standard transmission bellhousing should fit. I'm assuming they used the 53 bellhousing when they swapped the 57 engine into place, as the mount on the 57 bellhousing are of a different design not compatible with the 53 rear engine crossmember, hope that helps.

I haven’t see any vendors offering a 6cyl cover for the 2nd series trucks. The Truck Shop in Orange, CA advertises a plastic cover for the V8. I have purchased 6cyl parts from them that are not listed in their catalog. (They told me that their catalog is outdated.) It won’t hurt to reach out and ask if they offer a cover for the 6cyl. See lower left of attached photo.

Good luck.

It would probably be simpler to have a local sheet metal shop fabricate a cover. There's nothing particularly important about its function except to protect the rotating parts from catching gravel or road debris and jamming it up into the bell housing. A reasonably competent tin bender could probably bang one out in a couple of hours. A piece of air conditioning duct work, a pair of tin snips, and a few pop rivets would be all I'd need to make a suitable cover.

I can only assume they used the '53 bellhousing, so that is what I will look for. I don't want to use the Car & truck shop, as they won't help if you are calling from overseas! I have tried several times to contact/phone them so I gave up. I may have to chop up and modify something available locally.

Just for other people who may look up this thread in the future, that 838438 GM part number that the Filling Station listing in the post above also fits GMC 1939-1953 "ALL" (models 350 or smaller), but not 55.2-60. I don't have 54-55.1 documentation.

'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12
'52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.
