Anyone here ever used a Delco 10 SI alternator plug with a diode on your old truck alternator conversion? I am having a battery drain overnight and have narrowed it down to the spade plug on the alternator. When I unplugged from the spade terminal the battery held a complete charge overnight. Gone thru 4 alternators in the last year. First three were bad not charging , the present charging but battery drains overnight. have just replace d the bearing in my old one.

Where do you have the diode and the two terminals on the alternator connected?

You have an excessive amount of current draw through the regulator assembly inside the alternator. Most of them are made offshore these days, and they're junk. Normally, it's only a few milliamps, and it would take weeks to drain the battery. Either install an original equipment Delco Remy regulator (NOT AC-Delco) or wire the excitation voltage through he ignition switch.

The two terminals are connected on the top side at the 2:00 o clock position. I have nit installed a diode but read an article that stated the diode would act as a check valve to direct the current only one way and not allow a back draw and drain the battery after the ignition is off.

If you just type “10 si wiring” into your favorite search engine᠁.you will get several diagrams that illustrate what Jerry is describing.

Problem solved. I ordered a new alternator connection plug with the diode and installed it as Jerry described, I connected everthing and waited until the next morning and she started right up. Battery still had a full charge. Thanks Guys
