Is there an original vintage "Champ-Items" window regulator rebuild kit available for my 1948 Chevy 1/2 ton truck? If so, I would like to source one; which kit # am I looking for? I see that a modern kit is available from the major vendors, but I would like to go this old school route.
I have learned that I need "Champ-Items" window regulator rebuild kit #992B for my 1948 Chevy 1/2 ton truck.
Luke, Where did you find the information about this "rebuild kit"??? 1st time I've seen anything about such kits.

I read a related article on a rebuild for a car. I thought that the same must have held true for our trucks. A longtime Stovebolt contributor PM'd the pictures of the kit to me.

FOUND! Now the fun begins...hope to have all my teeth left after removing the large spring. Hoping that a pair of vise grips and a little prying eases it off. I am all eyes and ears if there is some good advice out there as to how to proceed. Thanks!

If you crank the regulator all the way to the position where the window is fully closed, then there will be the least tension on the spring. You'll be good. Wear your face shield.

Luke, glad you found your regulator rebuild kit, but you haven’t related as to why you’re doing the rebuild. If the pinion shaft is shot that kit will probably be the answer. I went thru mine about 10 years ago: because the passenger window would not stay up….it would roll down all by itself. I ended up rebuilding both sides. Not sure if your kit will include it but there is a small tension spring inside the housing inside of a cup (not the big external spring that’ll eat your face if you’re not careful). This small internal spring has small tabs at the ends of the coil. Those tabs wear and/or break off and the weight of the window lets it roll down unassisted. Also, as per my attachment you can see I used machine screws and nylocs (not rivets) as an option to hold the housing together. If your kit doesn’t include the small tension spring maybe now would be a good time to purchase and install it. Good luck, Dave
I appreciate your input. The machine screws/nylocs are a nice idea. The pinion shaft is shot; wore right out. The window always stayed up as it should. I replaced this bad passenger side regulator with a very nice OEM specimen this past fall. The bad regulator that I removed is sitting here in the shop in poor condition; I thought that this would be an interesting winter's day project. Maybe I am a glutton for punishment! I am fortunate to find the NOS rebuild kit. I hope to be able to work on this project next week. I will likely make the repaired unit available on this site.
