It’s like a short wood screw which only goes into the cardboard firewall cover. These were all Installed at dealerships so who knows if they were all put in the same place. There may be an installation instruction pamphlet in Brad’s album.

Thanks for all the input, but....the accessory guide is unclear to me at best, I was hoping for a clear head on picture to show me the way. Thanks again for any help you can give.
You may need to grab the pic in a new window and zoom in to get a larger view as the pictures in Jim Carter's page aren't a separate linked page.
Hope this may help.

The Carter pictures are the best ones I have seen. The manual says on page 37 figure 99, "It is important that capillary & clip be located on dash bulge according to dimensions shown. How important is that really?
Just my $.02 worth on the subject, but I think the point of mounting the sensor on the hump and only attaching the clip and screw to the "dash mat" is to allow the sensor to most accurately sense inside cab temps. The dash mat keeps the bulb from getting influenced by exterior air temps from the metal firewall panel. Same thought on the mounting clip and screw. The screw not penetrating to the metal firewall panel, keeps it from being a path to transmit the temp of the firewall. That heat/cold transfer would confuse the bulb into think the interior temp was either too hot or too cold and effect the function of the heater control.
Make sense???
