My rebuilt water pump came with a thin cardboard (paper) gasket. I'm trying to determine if I need to use some sort of gasket sealer to get a good leak free seal. I thought I would search the internet for a quick answer. I think I'm more confused now than I was before as there are about as many opinions as there are people posting. So I decided to ask the experts on here since many of you have "been there and done that" with this specific engine. Gasket sealer or not and if so what kind?
Thanks,

It claims to be both gas and water proof. Of course may be completely different as my 216 is probably much more modern and advanced than your '37 as mine came out of a '39. LOL Others will probably chime in and give actual correct advice.

I bought a water pump with a shorter shaft and that made things way easier. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 | I use a thin smear of Permatex Form A Gasket #2 on both sides of the gasket on water pumps and fuel pumps... It's not the same stuff as the chocolate brown "3-something" Permatex (3-D or 3-H) as it was specifically designed to resist aviation gasoline in the mid-1950s or earlier. It's available on Ebay.
