1959 ish 261 . Has the full flow button on the engine side. Don’t even ask why I pushed it in…. Well the pushed in button gives full flow out the threaded port for an oil filter. Problem is I’m not ready for that yet. Also my quick fix hydraulic hose port to port is probably too small diameter. As the engine seems to be starving for oil under load. Question . How do I pull the button back out . Thanks

Drill and tap it if you can ( I don't think it's hardened) and use a long bolt or a piece of all thread, a nut and a flat washer, and a deep socket to pull it back to the original position. A 3/8-24 thread should work OK. The line connecting the two ports needs to be 1/2" inside diameter if you aren't running a full flow filter.

Yes, I think so. If I were going to fool with doing a full flow conversion, I'd pull the plug all the way out and thread the block for a screw-in bolt instead of the press fit plug, but that requires a complete teardown to a bare block to keep cast iron chips from contaminating the oil passages.

The "full flow" concept is a giant leap backwards in oil filtering. Running a filter with a loose enough weave to flow all the oil volume needed to keep the bearings lubed means none of the oil gets filtered efficiently. Like Carter used to say about fuel filters, the average fuel strainer is there to catch "rocks, marbles, and bowling balls". The same can be said about full flow oil filters. A 1-micron hydraulic oil filter in a "bypass" configuration will do a good job of keeping motor oil clean, but it won't flow enough volume to keep the engine lubricated.
