So I cleaned up the 50 today and applied pledge. Will it last probably not. Does it damage paint can't tell you. I used to use it on my show truck and never had a problem. Scrubbed with mean green first and actually used dollar store knock off polish. Anyway here's some before and after pics.
Once upon a time you could buy a tube of pure carnauba wax blended with lanolin and little bit of petrolatum for about a dollar...about the size of a toothpaste tube. It went a long way, too. Chrome plating shops and parts stores sold it. It would do the same thing but it would last for months and months. The key was to never get any on your windows.

Ok. I had to hide the Dawn. Now I have to hide the Pledge?
Actually, the trucks do look better. If it doesn't harm the paint, it sure would come in handy when taking your truck to an event and you don't have time to do a real wax job.
We'll put some in the "truck cleaning carton."

Peggy just don't use it in the sun or on hot paint. When I had a show vehicle I would just spray a little on a dust cloth and wipe vehicle. Just like dusting.
Pledge on patina? Never would have occurred to me. I will be curious to find out how it weathers - will it just gradually disappear , or turn milky or what?
Age 68 is not too late to start hot rodding , right?
Well it rained the other day so when I got back home and checked it out was surprised it didn't look streaky. Looked the same after the rain. I'm sure it won't last long but it's pretty easy to reapply.
I remember seeing something years ago where someone rubbed motor oil into the faded paint. Looked ok for long time.

......and as a teenager i rubbed my old faded 53 down with diesel fuel. It really looked good aftsr i drove it up the red dirt road. ......also used motor oil on an old lawn mower. Looked pretty slick for a while!
I have used pledge on mc for a long time. It's a quick shine when you are showing it off and it smells nice. Does not last long. Pledge was the goto for a quickie before there were all the spray waxes out there.
I liked the spray wax since it was easy and a light wax (really mostly just catching the dust in a cloth). We learned on some of the furniture that it needed some real oil once in a while and then it really soaked it in - a couple "coats" worth. I'm guessing that's the same thing with the vehicles and what not.
The spray wax John put on the mower made it look good. Of course, that won't see any rain.

I use 3in1 oil on my 54. Just a little bit and a lot of buffing with a clean cloth. Lasts, no streaks, and it doesn’t attract dirt when buffed. Brings out the patina and brightens the factory paint too.

And is there any silicon in it? I’m paying close attention to old timers on this site to never get silicon close to your paint. Apparently, it’s next to impossible to remove if you need to paint, which I’m still dreaming of.
