I'm fairly sure the source of my 2nd to 3rd gear grinding was due to either the synchro not being correctly pressed into the main gear or I didn't set in the retaining ring correctly when I rebuilt my 3speed last year. Not sure what the correct terminology is but I'm meaning the ring that sets into the synchro. The two notches have some damage due to shearing (most likely my fault). Is this component still available or would a machine shop be able to have the notches repaired enough to suffice for my pickup that gets very light and infrequent use?
Unfortunately, it looks like you've got an expensive paperweight now. That one's beyond help. Which 3 speed are you working with? Jerry

I have one of those I got off eBay recently if you are working on a SM318 trans? Then I found the whole synchronizer drum with that part included on both ends of the drum. Let me know by DM?
