I wouldn’t even attempt the trip to the MBA Roundup next month if I didn’t think I had a reasonable chance of success.

However, has anyone here ever used the roadside assistance part of their Haggerty insurance coverage? I need to look into it and see what is included.

I called them. Nice folks. I was mistaken, I guess my policy doesn’t have the roadside thing. I could add it for $70 and it would pay for a 100 mile tow on a flatbed.

Still curious if anyone has a real-life example of using it, or if you think it’s worth it. Need to figure out what my AAA membership gets me.

Check your credit card coverage as some include roadside assistance.

I have had AAA for over a decade and have used it relatively frequently - sometimes for towing a car from my driveway to a shop.

AAA sometimes takes hours to arrive.

JW,

Just a reminder that I believe we still have an active (old) PM from "Aggressive Goal 1.0" (last years attempt to get your truck to KC) with shared contacts.

Aggressive goal - 350 miles to KC in September

My previous offer still stands should you need some road side assistance.

Guessing you are planning to still use the same route, or have route plans changed???

JW, I can give you road side help to get you home. But that will have to wait till Monday after the Roundup.

I have Allstate Roadside and I have had it for over 40 years and used it just once and that was 2 months ago because I did not call the office and get it approved I was denied payment of $50.00. It pays up to $100.00. I sent in the proper paperwork to get it, but nothing so far. Btw it is up to the rennual at the end of the month. NOPE. I also changed to State Farm for PLPD on my auto and agreed value on the 54 and the house will be changed soon. For all that I got in return, It is not worth it. I paid $50.00 for years and rarely used it may be a waste of money. I live 600 miles from KC and most of the truck trips are of that length.

Got AAA premiere which gives me 100 mile tow with one each year for 200 miles...no matter what vehicle I'm in. Gave AAA to my daughters for their birthday. Had special last week $87 for the year and included my grandaughter on her plan.

I’m with Alvin. I have AAA and have used it for our cars and trucks regardless of the insurers.

Heck, you can use it even if you are riding in someone else’s car. That’s what I’ve heard but never tried it.

Victor is right. If you are present in the vehicle that requires assistance, you get your full AAA benefits.

Even though it's supposed to be for emergencies, I have used AAA to have my car towed from my home to shops for service if it was inoperable or otherwise couldn't safely be driven.

Yes, have roadside assistance with Haggerty insurance on our 1952 3100 pickup. Needed assistance last week Tuesday at a cruise and show about 15 miles from home. Used the Haggerty App on my phone (could have used an agent if desired). A local tow company contacted me with an estimated time (30 min.) Asked what needed, jump, tire, gas etc. Needed lift home with suspected fuel pump failure. Truck arrived during estimated time and used great care with loading our pickup on the flatbed. Brought us home and even pushed our pickup into our garage. No charge to us. Said Haggerty had already paid them. Haggetty followed up within the hour for an update on service or if additional help was needed. Next day a survey for rating was e-mailed to us. Used roadside service one other time 3 years ago with a very good experience also.

On a scale of 1 to 10, Allstate Motor Club rates about a minus three. I've had it for over 20 years, and used it occasionally for towing, flat tire changes, and even "out of gas". It used to be pretty good. That all changed last Saturday night. Allstate now uses a call center in India to dispatch tow trucks. After two hours of virtually unintelligible conversation about a severely damaged trailer and a tow vehicle with a flat tire, and a refusal to take the call by two towing companies for ridiculously low payment offers, I cancelled the request for assistance and found a nearby towing service by using the search function on my GPS. Two hours later, after a 52 mile tow, and $400.00 lighter in my back pocket, I arrived home.

Allstate Motor Club will never get another penny from me!

I have Hagerty insurance but do not have their roadside assistance plane. What do you pay for the Hagerty roadside? I assume it's itemized on your insurance policy. I'm considering switching providers.

I have AAA and the times I've used them it often takes a couple hours or more. $110 per year or so for mediocre service.

Hello JW and Otto,
In addition to Hagerty's Insurance on our '52 Chevy pickup we have Hagerty Drivers Club for an additional $70.00 annually that includes road service as well as other perks.

Thanks. I think I'm going to cancel AAA and sign up with Hagerty for roadside assistance. I declined the driver's club because I alreadyu had AAA but it looks like Hagerty might be a better deal.

AAA has a 100 mi tow limit for the gold membership. What's Hagerty's limit?

I had Allstate Motor Club for over 40 years and at the end, I was paying $100.00 a year and I only used it maybe 5 times for short tows in all those years. I just switched my home and auto insurance to Statefarm but I have not decided yet if I want to get the motor club.

AAA covers all your vehicles, regardless of insurers.
I’m not sure but I believe Hagerty only covers vehicles insured with them.

We just paid our Hagerty bill for Charlie and Hobbs (the IH Dump truck). Their Hagerty Plus Program brochure (from last year) says it covers:

Emergency Flatbed recovery and roadside assistance
Historic vehicle association membership
Hobby information resources
Historic vehicle advocacy
Membership discounts
*Ask Hagerty* concierge service.

hmmm ... we need to suggest they put some TRUCKS in their brochures and their website!!

laalaa

That's true. Not only that, AAA covers you personally even if you're a passenger in someone else's car. They'll tow that guy's car , too.

The tow I almost had was going to cost me $600.00 which Allstate and most towing clubs will only pay $100.00. So if I saved on average $75.00 a year over 40 years not having it would pay for a lot of tows. ohwell dance BTW thanks to JDL for the patchwork, it got me home and I drove it on a joy ride yesterday and still trying to decide where to take it for further repair. Also thinking of having the fuse box moved to the other side of the firewall into the engine bay. There looks to be a perfect spot, an indentation in the firewall. This is the one I have chosen. This where I want to put it.. The fuse box is just behind this.

Ron,

Just a note here that your added info in the post kinda changes the original topic of discussion. If you are looking for feedback or want to ask a question on your "fuse box" choices, please post that in a new thread in the Electrical Bay please and thanks.

With that, back to further conversation on the original topic. wink

I have the State Farm tow plan. How much per year? ??

I used it once on my '90 Dodge Ram when the Cummins chewed up the transmission at the top of Lookout Pass. I got towed the 100 miles to the transmission shop in Missoula. There was no additional charge.

I took out AAA once when we took a truck camper trip from here to Fairbanks, Homer, Valdez, etc. Turned out they wouldn't cover towing on certain roads like the Denali Highway.

Jerry, they have used the India connection for years. My 54 stalled less than a mile and a half from home on top of a steep hill that if a major highway did not intersect my route home I could have coasted home. I had men with trucks offer to tow me home. But no I waited 1 1/2 hrs to be towed. But their last stunt was my last and I have not yet been reimbursed. This has gotten me thinking about what I would have saved by not having them I could have paid for a Plymouth. dang

I've heard that among Alstate's competitors, the saying was, "If you have Allstate, we're sorry." I've never had occasion to use towing service through my Insurance company, but once, I needed my boat trailer pulled out of the ditch when I cut it too close going into a driveway. I called a number I found on the web and they said, "Well, we can come, but it'll take us 5 hours to get there". I said no thanks, and found an outfit that was local and he was there within an hour to get me out.

My brother, who practiced law in Tennessee for 30+ years had a standard procedure for dealing with State Farm- - - -SUE! They would usually make a good settlement of a claim, but it almost always happened on the courthouse steps a few minutes before a trial began. Negotiating with an adjuster was an exercise in frustration, especially if any kind of injury claim was involved.

JW51,

As this was originally your thread, did we answer your question or are you looking for more info/feedback???

Appreciate if you would let us know so we can know what to do with the thread.

The conversation has kinda dwindled to another "Insurance" dead horse topic which we could add to till the cows come home, but it's pretty much already been said.

What say you sir! headscratch

I was with Allstate for over 40 years and I had a few not-at-fault accidents I had no issues with their efforts to settle. The worst was a fellow Allstate person.
