Woke up this morning and there was a break in the rain. Figured it would be a good time to pack up and head out.

Saw Cosmo and Nick on the way out and thanks to everyone. Always a great time with you all!

Be safe and see you down the road!

It was nice to see you, Victor! Same with the rest of the Thursday crew. Apologies again for my abrupt departure. Wish I could have stayed. Thursday afternoon and evening was a grand time. I beat the rain home and got Charlie safely tucked back in his house. The Asphalt Therapy did me a lot of good. Then the rain started. Gently at first ... This morning, HQ has been on the receiving end of Ophelia's rain bands. We're inbetween them at the moment and getting a small break before the main part of the storm arrives. And the power goes out ....

Hopefully, conditions aren't too bad at Camp Stovebolt ... and Joe's portico hasn't blown away... Again ...

We had reservations for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 2 weeks of rain in the weather forecast, increasing until we finally decided to cancel. This is a favorite gathering for us and we are disappointed and miss seeing everyone. Tom is coming to work on our '54 COE 5700 as the weather 45 minutes from the Michigan football game will be 72 degrees and sunny at game time. Might take a look at our newly acquired '54 6400 flat bed and '54 6500 grain trucks. We have lots of work to do before winter. Sorry to miss you all. Jim and Tom

Brothers,

Had a great time! The wind blew me south on I81 till I hung East bound on I64 and then hit sideways. Just bands of light rain, nothing heavy in central VA.
Super seeing everyone that could make it. The urgency of the wx is understandable, still, a fun time abbreviated.

Thanks to Billy Marlow for his generosity as CC Extraordinaire, too many major and minor niceties to list! Thanks too to Cabana Boy Joe who, light of foot, replenished beverages whenever they reached dangerously half-glass. Thanks too to SAA Sweet who provided luxurious air b&b accommodations in the form of a shared tent. SAA Sweet lulled me to sleep with snoring akin to the sound of a 18 year old heavily used Harbor Freight chain saw with bad rings, ergo, bad compression (think Detroit Diesel 2-stroke), music to mine ears. Thanks to Pat and his son for providing the attendees with yet another out of the park home run beverage cooler. WOW! So great to have conversations with Sweet, Mike B., John, Billy, Joe, Jim, Victor, Mikey and Artie. Very pleased to meet Kayla's young man Kalen, with whom I also conversed. He is well put together with brains, ambition, a developing skill set and impressive observed manners. Thanks to Nick for going way, way, out of his way to retrieve a dual exhaust system that I hope will serve him well.

I'm in a bad way, I'm home and I wish I were there, I'm home and I wish it were next year. I'll just be thankful for the time we had and look to the future.

Sigh. Despite the weather ... you guys did great.

Moved stuff over here so we'll have it in one spot. Sorry, it's what I do.

I think we need clarification of how to spell Kayla's boyfriend's name ...

Yes! I asked Mikey and thought I heard what I spelled above but that was transmitted over the sounds of laughter, a crackling fire, and three other simultaneous conversations. It will be interesting to learn the correct spelling.

It was great seeing everyone, Dana and I made it home this afternoon with light rain most of the way. I think we left the field at about 9:30 or 10 this morning and the place was a ghost town...already looking forward to our next get together!

I'm a little late to the Winchester recap. Wednesday-Friday was awesome, beautiful, delightful, etc. Saturday, not so bueno. Loading in the rain and mud, and driving through sideways wind and rain was a white knuckler at times. Then, unloading in the rain at Commandant HQ was just icing on the cake. Tainted icing....bad icing. frown
It was a great time while it lasted and great to see everyone that made it out. The forecast and other plans kept some away and they were missed. Right off the bat I need to thank Pat for the awesome beverage couzies with the 860 on them. Very generous and appreciated.
We didn't even get to have the Stovebolt banquet this year due to the tropical depression that soaked everything and caused a mass exodus. I need to thank Victor ( and Mrs. Victor) for the delicious brownies. I rescued them before the rain and they somehow made it home with me. grin Jennifer and I are still enjoying them.
Mike Roach Pat and Artie Guy get the last men standing award this year staying until Sunday. I didn't mind giving that title up this year. A couple of personal observations that may not mean anything to some but, for me, it was awful strange to see Gary Callis's 59' REO there and not see him in it. Gary passed earlier this year and he was definitely missed.
I had trouble with the battery on the 860 when we were loading on Wednesday morning. When we arrived in Winchester, I needed a jump to get the truck off the trailer. As usual, almost like magic, I turned around and there was Scott Shifflett there to rescue me.
He always seems to be there to help out whatever the situation may be. Same with when we went to load Saturday morning. He and his crew were there to help get the trailer aligned correctly with the loading dock (too went and slippery to drive the truck up the trailer ramp). He was a huge help and is primary in the success of the Winchester Truck Show. We should all be thankful for Scott.
It sounds like Amtrak Joe gets the hardship award for his trip home to Philly. I'm sure he will elaborate but suffice to say, 12.5 hours to make it home. Sorry Joe.
So good to have the ODSS President in camp this year. A brother like no other. chug
I feel the same as he does though, can't wait to be back in Winchester (rain free please). Oh and by the way, next year will be a big one, 20 years for the Tri-State Antique Truck show. Bibs mandatory for Friday nights dinner. thumbs_up

When I left early Saturday morning, it was a light rain but I knew it was going to get worse; and it did.

Rain is no biggie because I put new blades on Doughboy before leaving. But then the wind velocity started to climb, just as I started to climb the mountains.

Headwinds and tailwinds I can deal with. But Doughboy catches the port and starboard winds like a sailboat. It’s a good thing I stopped to get a cup of coffee before heading home.

That being said, it was all worth it! And a BIG thanks to you Billy for all you do and did. You made what could have been a miserable situation a pleasure to be a part of! (At least for me; don’t know if Joe will agree after his journey home.)

Hope to see everyone down the road!

I had a great time even in the rain. That's what Winchester does. It rains. We have been spoiled the last few years with pleasant weather so I consider this past weekend a reminder. Great time seeing everyone, and I wished those who couldn't come would have been able.

I had a soggy ride home, rained the entire way. I also learned that I have managed to wear the tires out on the GreenMachine. I guess 40,000 miles is pretty good for the Blackwall Smoothies..

Looking forward to the next event!
