I bought this 2ton tow truck because I liked the tow rig on it. I m identifying what I have so I can determine parts selection and availability of parts. 2ton parts don’t seam as common. I matched the intake and block numbers to a 1958-62 261 motor. One more number I can’t see will tell me the year and month the block was made. So motor was replaced at some point. How do I know what rear is in it. Number location? It’s huge. Knowing what rear I can then order brake parts or is the upgrades for brakes. Not sure but trans. May be 4 speed with reverse left and back. Also has pto drive off trans for winch. I think I’d just like to keep the hand crank for the looks. Where are numbers on the trans. I have some emails out but will need lots of parts once I know what I have.

Ppacker,

First off, Welcome to Stovebolt! wave

You have come to the right place for help with your new "old" truck.

Use this 1948 Truck Resource Document as your first stop in learning where to find original equipment information locations and what the codes mean to help ID major components of your truck.

If the numbers you find don't match up with the resource document, it's possible like your engine that they may have been replaced at some point.

More info coming as folks provide replies and you ask more questions.

I see you have some posts already in the Big Bolts forum. Probably the best place to ask specific "Big Bolt" questions, but here is good for general info.

Once you have given the linked document a read, come back and let us know if you found what you need or could use more help. thumbs_up

Dan
