I'm about to pull the trigger on replacing the clutch and pressure plate. I found a mechanic that can work on it but not sure what size to get.
Was there a standard size..like 9 inch that mates to a 4 speed manual tranny.

I'd like to not have to pay storage to wait on parts if I can.. No windows yet so will have to be inside which I'm sure most places don't like space being taken up.

Thanks
Doug

I found out the hard way that there are at least 2 different size clutches. Recommend that you get the old one out and measure before ordering. Flywheel will need resurfacing so you have to wait for the machine shop anyway.

I have an 11 inch clutch in mine. It came from a 1954 Corvette that sadly had been a total loss. As Gord said, find out what you have first. The flywheel will tell the story. 10.5" was common and 11" is out there...was used in bus, heavy truck and was also in some early Corvettes (which is where mine came from). I used a 10.5" with a 1956 235 for years.

Good advice. I'm getting started on swapping the 216 in my '51 3100 with a '58 235. I think the recommendation is to use the 216 flywheel on the 235 but is there an advantage using a larger clutch/flywheel?

I found a local auto shop that can resurface the flywheel so that is a big relief...
I've just about decided to do the work myself even if its going to be a really hard job... maybe time to get some more tools smile

I’m on pause. Going to put up a new thread on how to get the ujoint off.

Also think I discovered why the clutch is slipping. Oil all over the flywheel cover.

Is that oil from your previous cracked block that was seeping oil down the side of the engine? If not your rear main seal may need attention before you install a new clutch.

I figured as much. I’m getting deeper than I wanted into this but will keep going.

There is oil but only a little. Clutch is dry.

Got the ball cover off the U-Joint and stopped for the day.
Tomorrow I’ll get the torque tube out of the way and look at starting on the trans.
