If I'm going to use my truck for work, then I'd like to do some preventative work to it. However, a Google search didn't work and not trusting Ebay to be listing the correct parts for my truck. For the most part, all I mainly need are seals and gaskets. (Lots of leaks, especially the trans.) It is easy to find them for the engine, but what about for medium duty transmissions and driveshaft/diffs? Most sites don't seem to go beyond 1-ton pickups. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone would point me to a webstore that deals in these AD medium duties.
I just changed the output seal on the back of my sm420 transmission in my 1 ton gmc dump truck I can confirm it’s part number 471341 I had an old skf I think or national But that was the seal for that location It’s tricky to get it started Was one of the more difficult to drive home compared to other locations -s
Just hopefully a helpful note that we may be able to provide some part number identification/source help better if we know for sure what truck you are working on and the specific part(s) you seek???
Are the parts you need for the 1953 GMC 9700 in your signature line?
Let us know more details on the truck and actual parts info you wish help with and we can try to help.

Mike B.: Too bad my local place stopped dealing NAPA. Will need to deliver or travel to use NAPA again.
Gdads51: Yes, it is. A 1953 GMC 9700 3-ton. The 9700 is Canadian, possibly 450 in the states? Don't remember the US Chevy equivalent. The plate in the door says 9783 HD. There seems to be a lot of numbers given to these trucks and gets confusing when trying to cross reference them. Though it's to be noted that I have a 262 i6 from a '66 Chevy school bus. The rest of the mechanicals is stock, though.
Thanks for the info on that truck you have as it can help during future parts searches as you let us know the items you may need help with!
Guessing you meant a 1966 "292" and not a "262" in the engine department??? I checked in some of your previous posts back on 2019 and found 1 picture, but your engine info wasn't fully defined then.
Which transmission are you currently running?
Same question on the other drivetrain components?

Most parts, seals, bearings, etc. have a PN somewhere, so do not destroy them before getting that number, I have a 3 ring binder that has all the box lids with PN on the new ones saved. Also can search by dimension of cannot find PN.

Gdads51: Oops, typo! Yes, I did mean 292! It has the stock 4 speed; I will need to pressure wash it someday to look for numbers on it. Same with the rear. For now, it has a vacuum operated 2-speed differential with "GMC" on the cover. Pretty much the whole drivetrain after the engine is stock. Of course, I know the manufacture didn't always make their own drivetrains for bigger trucks, so I don't know if "stock" is of any help to you.
Perhaps EdPruss or other Big Bolt GMC owners know if the '53 vacuum operated 2 speed differential is the same as for the Chevy's of the same year group???
GMC Parts book info is often much harder to find, but the Chevy info for that type/year rear axle is readily found which may help in identifying replacement parts???
How about it folks, any correlation between GMC and Chevy rear axles/differentials???

Ok alex so it sounds like you have a sm420 4 speed transmission the sm420 and its younger brother the sm465 you can still get parts for and really as long as the case is good I believe you can replace just about everything in them. As for seals in other places like the axle the rebuild manual for the eaton axle I am putting under my truck says to use gasket maker. For the vacuum 2 speed I don't know if you can get a new diaphragm for the 2 speed unit but I have seen people replace them with eletric shift units as you can still buy those so you might be able to find one if the 2 speed goes out

Mike B: I don't have a pic right now, but it is a decent fit with only two things. I was able to make some simple rear mounts with just some thick rectangle metal with a few holes and one bend in each. I salvaged some side engine mounts and drilled some holes into both them and the frame to bolt on. I had to add electric fans since there wasn't room for a regular one. Not only was it close to the rad, but it was offset close to the frame. Could still have added a fan but it would have been undersized.
