I drove my 56 4400 sunday. It had not run in over 5 years. It took some rigging, but it ran, and ran good! see the video:

That is one big water tank. The 56 has its work cut out for it.

Yeah, I actually drove it a lap around the property out there, but the video is too large to upload to youtube. Right now im in the process of getting some tires. Sorry if you guys think im lame, I was just really excited, and thought maybe some of you could relate.

all of us get absolutely thrilled when our trucks come to life. as far as rolling on the wheels you were on dirt so likely did no damage.

One of the coolest feelings in the world is when you get one to move under its own power for the first time! Congratulations!!

The first trip out of the shop is the best even if you don't have brakes and running off of a 1/2 gallon mower tank!

LOL thats funny because thats exactly what i did. I had a small fuel can tied to the fender gravity feeding the carb, and i had no brakes, and only two out of six tires! But I drove it...Yeah! It was great.

When I bought mine it ran & moved, it was just stuck in low range & didn't stop so well. Attempted to drive it home, but decided better of it & had it towed. But man, those 1st few miles were great!
Even the 2nd trip from the house to the shop where it is now was fun. At least I got the rear end to shift now, so that wasn't so bad, but still, I thought it was great & cannot wait to get the motor back together. grin

I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things.
But thats just MY opinion!

Dude, that rocks. I dont care if you have to push, pull or drag it along by the fan belts, its way cool when it comes to life and moves under its own power. Besides, things like tires, brakes, and fuel tanks are way over rated.

I had the same feeling with my 65 C 50 wrecker. It sat for fifteen yrs. I worked on it where it sat in the next town over from mine. It took five months to get it running -new brakes- tune up-battery-new radiator-new hydro vac-gas tank. But when it moved under its own power and stopped it felt almost as good as the three letter word. (almost)then when i got the boom and wrecker to work and grabbed onto an old f$%d two ton and hauled it around the yard there that was real satisfaction. All the money and hard work was worth it. keep up the good work.
