Have 2000 miles on my 37 frame off resto and just today tranny grinding when trying to shift into reverse. Have 1/2 " of free play on pedal and has had no issues. Does clutch need adjustment or issue in tranny? Drove to town this morning no problem. Went. To back in garage tonight and grinding to get into reverse. Thanks for any help. Bill
I've have driven aton of t5s in various applications. And some have done that exact same thing.Try putting it in 4th or 5th gear then reverse and will probably work just fine. If not, then you might have to dig alitta deeper.
Thanks for replying! Ya just tried that and it worked ok. I guess most times when parking and shuting.truck off then getting back in to move out of parking spot truck was off then shift to reverse to back out and worked ok. I guess you learn something everyday and every trip. Thanks Bill
Putting the transmission in any of the synchronized forward gears stops all the motion in the transmission. Quickly selecting reverse before the gears have time to spin up again is a good work-around, but if the problem persists, you might have a little bit of drag of the clutch disc against the flywheel or pressure plate. A slightly tight pilot bushing will cause the same problem, keeping the input shaft spinning just a little, even with the clutch pedal fully depressed. Reverse is the only gear that's not synchronized. Jerry

I've seen this problem happen right after a new clutch was installed because the alleged "mechanic" let the weight of the transmission hang on the clutch disc spline as he stabbed the transmission, and bent the center of the disc. That causes the disc to wobble when the pedal is depressed and drag against the flywheel. No, the problem won't correct itself with use! Jerry

Took the truck to breakfast today. Shifted kinda hard and when arrived home with truck in neutral and running could hear noise in tranny. Clutch seems fine so thinking I have issue in transmission.
Yes. ATF. Dex/Merc is the best for daily use and is ok for NWC and WC versions of the T5. Dexron 5 and 6 are too thin. Gear oil will ruin the fiber lined synchronizers found in the WC T5s (1993 and up S10 and 1988 and up Camaro/Firebird are WC).
Finally got my 37 up on a hoist to find my issue. Bolt and lock nut for clutch adjustment was worn so threads were not holding. Installed new bolt and lock nut on both sides of bracket and test drove a couple miles. Seems ok then trailered truck back home 50 miles. Seems to be a noise in tranny that I have not heard before. Will drive around town this week and see what happens. Will post final results this week. Thanks for replys on this. Bill
