Hello,

I am making progress on my 1954 3100 S10 Conversion. I am using the stock hydramatic steering column with stock shift lever. I will swap out the stock indicator with a modern indicator. But I can’t figure out how to connect the column shifter to the tranny linkage.

Has anyone used the stock 54 shifter plate (bolts on top of the end of steering column, with shift rod running thru it) to connect the tranny linkage to the column shifter?

I’m beginning to understand why aftermarket columns with column shifter are used.

Thank you for your comments.

You only need shifter arm on column to move four positions---park, reverse, neutral, and drive so why use an indicator? Picture is an AD on S10 chassis that includes a start in park only safety switch. The shift rod is just a piece of 3/8 rod turned down to 5/16 on the ends.

Does your setup have a “gate” (lack of a better word) to prevent accidentally shifting into R?

The picture that Evan posted is of a 3 speed manual shift box. It wouldn't have a "detent" like your HydraMatic shifter had when it left the factory. Most of those wore out many years ago.
