Anyone ever looked into putting newer spindles (in my instance, 1988 GMC C6000) on an older axle (again in my case, my 1955.2 6400)?

I recently picked up the 88 GMC and would like to use the whole running gear in my 55. Wondering about the front axle, I believe it is way too wide, and not a good idea to cut and narrow it! (although, done all the time on rear axles).

I have not taken it apart and measured kingpins or anything, and I know about using the P30.

On my ‘55.2, GMC I put disc brake hubs/spindles from ‘91-‘01 +/- GMC P-3500 HD with tie rod behind axle on my stock front axle. Needs to be 2 ton or slightly larger axle with steel six bolt hub cap. Tires stay inside front fenders.

King pin diameter can be shimmed or new bushings($12. each) made to make up diameter. Axle thickness at king pin must be same. Easy to do.

Delphi(Saginaw) power steering also installed.

Thanks for the info and pics, Ed! I know about the P30, but I already have the 1988 C6000 (also a 2 ton) and was wondering specifically about that.

If I used the whole front axle, the tires would be a tad wider (maybe an inch on each side) than the fenders on my 58 2 ton, and the 55.2 fenders are not quite as wide so, they'd stick out too far.

I need to take some measurements on axle thickness and kingpins and see! I'd like to use both front spindles and the rear axle off the C6000 so I have disks all the way around and the same bolt pattern!

Mike, I thought your spindles/hubs might also fit like mine.

I am hoping they will fit like yours! That would be awesome! I'll get it all apart and probably need to pick your brain about where to get or even see if you can make me some bushings!
