I looked around and am having a little hard of a time making sure that I am purchasing the correct parts for my 3800 drive shaft support bearing (Carrier Bearing). I havent found anything specifically stating it works on the 3800 just on the 3600. Is there anyone who has recently replaced this part that can help me out with the bearing part number and the rubber bushing for it?

Sleuthing around here shows me that the bearing itself is the same between 3/4 and 1 ton trucks, but the support and cushion are different. If you're just looking for the bearing, the attached pic has a bearing number for you.

When the carrier bearing went out on my '47 3800 some 20 years ago, I took the driveshaft to a truck bearing repair shop. They told me they usually get the whole vehicle to work on. As my truck was immobile they put a replacement carrier bearing on the 2-piece driveshaft. When I got it back under the truck I found the two mounting holes were different. I made it fit and drove it that way for over 20 years.

There is an HB88107A assembly that comes as a whole piece of the bearing and housing all in one for essentially the same price as just the bearing. I may just get this and if it fits great or if it doesn't then I will get it to fit like you did Walter.

For the carrier bearing cushion, see the screen shot below grabbed from HERE.

The 1 Ton "cushion" is noted as "3-7/16" OD, where the 3/4 Ton is showing as "3-11/16" OD. Same bearing, but different cushion.

There is an eBay seller (Not Mine) that says they have 3 NORS Doan 2036 cushions available now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/254590428247 (replacement for Cushion, GM# 3657524)

Hope this is helpful??? thumbs_up

From Dan's clip, it looks like 54-55.1 3/4 ton cushions are the same as the 1 ton. Not sure whether the vendors have 48-53 3/4 ton bearing cushions or 54-55.1, which should fit your 1 ton.

A little further web sleuthing shows that Jim Carter and Classic Parts list 3/4 ton carrier bearing cushions for sale. Jim Carter indicates 1941-53 (not 54-55.1) and doesn't list an actual OD dimension. Classic Parts lists theirs as 1941-54 3/4 Ton with an OD of 3-1/2" (1/16" larger than the GM specified OD in the parts book). Not sure if either one of these options would work???

https://oldchevytrucks.com/me467.html

https://www.classicparts.com/1941-54-Drive-Shaft-Support-Cushion-3_4-Ton/productinfo/92-902/

Could not find listings for correct year 1 Ton cushions from any of our other normal truck parts vendors.

Good luck CBall! Let us know how this turns out.

Dan

Alright so I finally got all the bits and pieces in!
Was able to get a new carrier bearing and bushing for the truck and everything fit great! Here are the parts and where I got them:

Bearing: Napa prt# PGB PBR88107 which is a standard 88107 carrier bearing on most GM trucks
Bushing: Ebay NORS DOAN part 2036 (GM part number 3657524)

All in all $35 wasn't too bad and the most difficult part was removing it from the truck! Ended up having the cut the bolts out and get some new ones.

Hope this helps someone!

That's not too bad. I spent all day just replacing the Huck brake shoes on one wheel. I have three more to go! Good thing I'm not trying to earn a living doing this stuff!

Good job CBall! thumbs_up

Glad to see you found what you needed and thanks for sharing the results and part number for others to be able to refer to.
