I'm located in southern NJ. | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 | Hi Scott, welcome to the best site on earth!
Search this site a little (with search) and you will find some answers but I would start at NAPA for some things. You would be suprised. I'm sure others with more knowledge will post in. I haven't got there yet in my projects and I know it can be a challenge.
Glad to have you on the site. | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 355 Member | Member Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 355 | So far I haven't found any of the parts store in my area that were not able to get me the master and wheel cylinders I needed. If you need brakes shoes, that completely differnt. Those you may have to send in and have relined. | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | be careful when folks say they don't have parts for your YEAR MODEL. Find out what years are the same for your truck and ask for the latest one. I have found many parts for say a 52 by asking for a part of a 57 if they are the same. Some stores may not list back to a 54 but back to a 57. If the 57 are the same you are in business!! Lots of great advice here.... | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | I have an old Napa brake parts catalog. It shows an early 54 with 1" front wheel cyls. & late 54 with 7/8" front wheel cyls. Also we need to know if it,s a 4000 or 5000 series truck. If your cyls. are not pitted to bad you can hone them out & put kits in them. They are readily available. I,ll be glade to look up the part numbers for you but i,m not shure they will still be available. The part no. on the shoes are B-299R front 14x2 1/2". RS-140 rear. 15x4". They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | Anonymous Unregistered | So what parts are you short? Your 1954 would be Bendix so might not be that hard to come up with. | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 66 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 66 | I am truly impressed with the in depth response to my first stovebolt question. I, too, have had excellent luck with finding brake parts for my '49 4400 at NAPA. And I got the shoes relined at a big truck repair shop.
Send us a photo and write up of your truck(s) for the Gallery!

And be sure to check out the rest of the site.
Thanks, John

(508)788-9409, be sure to ask for Geoff. I know alot of '47-'54 Big Truck owners that have used this place for brake parts. | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 1,820 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 1,820 | I have found that many of the brake parts will have a multi year run. For example, 1955 car rear wheel wheel cylinders with work on a 1954 car. The lines to the cylinder are different, requiring different lines, but they can be made to work. And 1955 car rear wheel cylinders are very inexpensive. I like NAPA or older "Mom and Pop" type auto supply stores that have the old catalogs and will take the time to look items up for you. There are still some stores out there like that and. I think, those stores are the key to finding your parts. Joe
