Looking for a picture under the hood showing the upper latch assembly. Have a 49 Chevy panel (panel doesn’t matter, imagine same for any 3100). I have the sheet metal part and latch on the body/rad side. Would greatly appreciate a picture of the latch and bracket on the hood. I might try to fab something. Thanks for any info.
So you're saying your hood is missing the upper latch reinforcement panel. Sorry I don't have a picture for you, but you might post an ad in the Swap Meet. I think you'd have some trouble fabbing a replacement, as the latch bolt that mounts to the hood panel would have to be located pretty exactly for both position and depth relative to the latch proper. Besides the plate, there are a couple of support rods heading from it to the edge of the hood. The Factory Assembly Manual Section 11, sheet 4 shows how they go together.

216wny That is a complicated part with countersunk clutch head screws and bracing along with secondary latch to keep the hood from blowing open. Mine has been saved after a hard chuck hole shot tripped the main latch.
FWIW, you may be able to take screen shots of the pics to keep for your own reference.
Hopefully someone can take and post an actual under hood shot of the upper latch still installed on their hood to help round out the info.

Here's some pics of the support rods that go from the edge of the hood to the front latch panel. They're 7-3/4" long between holes and have an offset in them. Note that the end that goes on the hood edge is countersunk to match a similar hole on the hood edge. My hood is disassembled at the moment, but these pics may help you track down the support rods if you're digging through a pile of parts. Notice at the upper left of the first pic the countersunk ring under the bolt head. That broke off the hood (since been restored). The last pic is the support rod clamped in it's position on the hood edge, but the upper hood latch panel isn't in place. My hood latch panel is currently not accessible or I'd send you a pic of it loosely bolted in place on the hood. The eBay link that Dan posted will show you that.
