I just got into my 41 1/2 ton w/GMC 228. "Someone" put the motor in the truck with no front motor mount because it looks like the block is over 2" longer the the 216.They then moved moved & replaced the radiator (it is a MOPAR radiator). Has anyone done this swap? It appears that if we center the engine the exhaust will hit the steering box and then there is the problem of the making a front motor mount. Ideally I would love to find a good 216 to make the truck stock again. I will post in parts wanted this request.

We are just looking for the best way to make this truck drivable.

I just posted in the "Driveline" forum my problem with a GMC 228 in a '41 1/2 ton. One of the possible solutions is to find a good complete 216 to replace it. Does such a thing exist and if so does anyone have one for sale?

Combined these posts, same subject matter. (Edited by Moderator)

Chances of finding a good 216 are slim. Even if you find one as a rebuildable core, it will be much more expensive rebuilding then getting a 235 that will bolt right in. It’s a swap that myself and many other ‘bolters have done. There are plenty of them out there and if you get a 54-55 it’s a direct swap. 56-62 would require a adaptor plate to move the water pump. I performed this installation and it was not hard at all. You’ll also gain HP. MY ‘59 235 has 135 vs the 90 the 216 it came with.

Thank you for the reply. But the body and frame is different for a1941 versus the truck you used. I’m not sure the swap would be that easy.

It is & was a farm truck. Goal is to get a reliable everyday runner & a weekend cruiser. I am working with a very capable mechanic/fab guy we are just looking for the best & easy way to go. I am looking a 1940 1/2 ton that someone has put a 235 in. What should I look for in this conversion ?

The point being the Chevy 235 is the same length as a 216. You should be able to adapt with less mods than using a GMC 228.
