I see, thank you for the explanation!

I think i will stick to the current setup for now. Our truck always stands in a heated garage so it will start just as well on cold days as normal days. But maybe i will change it in the future!

Also not the best day today for the wiring. Wanted to put the wiring under the dash back together, but while I installed the left clock back in the dash a cable became stuck. Unfortunately I pulled to hard and for some reason the topside of the headlight switch came off. cry loosened all the wiring on the headlight switch (numbered all of them) and tried to put the headlight switch back together. Thought I did it right, rewired it and tried it. BOOM! the thing almost set up in flames!!! Cut off the battery immediately. The thing was very hot and the points were completely burned. So I need to buy a new one.

Now my question is, is there something that could cause this? I know I could have put the thing back together the wrong way, but maybe something went wrong with the cables. I don't want to almost set the truck up in flames a second time. Could it be that the wiring made some kind of short?

Logic says it was caused by your accident.

Green51chevy I saw that you have the 5/8 belt and a fairly big pully,I suspect by now you have found it takes a lot of RPM to get it to charge. My 51 wood hauler looked just like that too. I finally belted mine fast enough to charge at idle so my electric winch could keep up. Used power steering pully and others to fix that, fan barely clears it but works good.
