With the help of our son's friend, I finally swapped out the dials, and got them lined up. My 1946 Chevy 1/2 ton truck was, of course, 6 volt, and I've decided to make it a 12 volt.

I keep finding articles on 47 and up, but mainly just to hook pre-existing wiring into a new wiring harness. This one is bare bones, no wires, and I need to wire it up to run power to it, and then connect it to the new wiring harness. Is there a thread somewhere for that? I've never done anything like it before, and I know it can't be super difficult, but I want to do it myself.

Unless there is something very special about your odometer, it is run by the same cable that runs the speedometer. No electrics involved.

@ Bill, I had to snip wires off of it. Would they have just been part of the wiring harness, then?

The speedometer and odometer are powered, not electrical, by the speedometer cable that runs from the back of the speedometer to the speedometer gear port on the transmission case. There are three ports, one just above that cable and two; one on each side of the speedometer, that house the bulb sockets for lighting. The attached photo shows the speedometer cable, black about 5/16” diameter attached to the speedometer port, about left of photo center and slightly above center. The lighting sockets are shown with the light green,16(?) gauge wiring cover partially with heat shrink tubing.
