On my fuel pump there are two vacuum outlets, one for the wipers and one that goes to the intake manifold port below the carburetor.
Question: is the line that goes from the Fuel Pump to the intake manifold port below the carburetor vital to the engine operating ? Can the line be plugged off at the manifold ? I have an electric wiper.
I am finding it a challenge finding a replacement Fuel Pump with the two vacuum outlets. See image below. I can get a single stage Fuel Pump that has no vacuum outlets.
If you're running electric wipers, there is no reason to have the dual action pump. The only reason it was installed in the first place was to assist the wipers with the engine under load. Jerry

If you're looking for a new fuel pump because your current one isn't getting the job done, you will be far better off rebuilding your original (and rare) fuel pump or having it rebuilt. https://www.then-now-auto.com
The pumps on the market now are all absolute crap from China.

It's also possible to simply loop a short piece of hose from one vacuum nipple to the other on the pump and just use the fuel pump function. The hose keeps mud wasps from using the nipples as nesting areas. Jerry

Yes. Plug the vacuum outlet on the intake manifold. You can run a single action pump permanently. You dont need or want the dual action pump with electric wipers.

1. Yes, plug it. If the port remains open to atmosphere performance will be poor. 2. Yes. The single stage fuel pump was standard when your truck was new. The double stage was an option. Fuel pump outlet pressure is 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 psi. Higher pressures may cause your carburetor to leak or flood so check with the seller before purchasing.
Rebuilding a used fuel pump can be more than installing a new kit. GM (AC/Delco) stopped carrying the original appearance fuel pump more than 50 years ago. These pumps are well worn now. A common problem is wear at the rocker pivot pin. Wear into the housing may require a machine shop rebush. These pumps are best repaired by professionals unless you are fortunate to find a NOS one. Even NOS require a new Ethanol tolerant kit.
About 30 years ago AC/Delco made replacement fuel pumps to replace the old pumps. The replacement pumps have tops that are pressed on, not easily removed for repair (see picture). This style of pump is no longer made.
Today most of the new replacement pumps are made by a pool of various Asian companies. Quality Control is an American word that has a different meaning in Asia. The larger chain and on-line auto parts stores pay extra to get the better pickings of these pumps. Before you buy one check the warranty and keep your sales receipts in case you need a warranty return or refund.

If the the two pieces of crap I purchased from the largest auto parts chain in America were the "better pickings", I'd hate to see the rest of them.
