My Question is how many people on this have converted to power steering and what did the use. How many of you have used the conversion kit were you use a power steering box from 1968-1976 chevy truck. My question is did you have to relocate the front shocks and how do you like the set up.Thanks Tom | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | There is a somewhat recent box that bolts to the original location in the frame. CPP has it, probably others, too. Takes a Toyota LC pitman arm. No negative comments so far!

In the end I chose not to install power steering but it sounds like you have already decided to go that route.
From what I found the 68-76 steering gear conversion mounts in front of the axle, outside of the frame, and does require that the front shocks be relocated to behind the axle (swapping driver's side and passenger side mounts in the process). The steering column needs to be recreated with appropriate joints, shaft extension, etc. to attach to the steering gear.
There are a number of threads regarding use of electric assist steering rather than traditional power steering. One word of caution is that in my case the original manual steering gear needed to be relocated outward over 2" to clear the exhaust manifolds I chose. There are a number of exhaust manifold options that may not interfer and others have had significnatly less interefernce than I experienced. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 5,777 Gearhead, Stovebolt Tech and Parts Tracker, Mod for Swap Meet and GTT | | Gearhead, Stovebolt Tech and Parts Tracker, Mod for Swap Meet and GTT Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 5,777 | FWIW, This may be better asked and answered in the The HiPo Shop Lots of conversations in the past about this topic as it ties in to the engine - transmission change and everything related.

These can be purchased at a shop which specializes in leaf springs. I have simply doubled up stock caster shims and tig welded them together. Doing this will make their installation much simpler. The caster shims purchased from a spring shop will not have the correct dimples and pimples which the originals have to keep them in place.
