Did you place a Parts Wanted ad in the Swap Meet. State the year/years.

Even the 1/2 ton spindles for 47-59 are hard to find used (and usable).

You want late model stuff I assume, to do the disc brake swap? Along with the spindles you need caliper brackets, steering arms, hubs, rotors, and anything else bolted to the spindles. Your best bet is to find the whole P30 5/10 lug front axle.
I've had no trouble finding them with a wanted add or just stumbling onto them, they're out there!

Grigg,

I think ifound one if these will work. They might be drums tho, let me know what you think. What would be an acceptable price for all of it?

Will work for what, what are you trying to accomplish?

That 68 C50 probably has a larger 10 lug pattern on it, not sure it'd be any good for you unless you just need to replace the exact same thing.

I am trying to match up to the original lug pattern. I plan on using the original wheels and opening up the centers of them. That's why I bought the dana 80 from the 3500hd has the same ten lug pattern with disc brakes. I now need to upgrade the front brakes on the original axle. Trying to follow what you have laid out in the sticky thread on disc brakes.

Then you must start with a P30 I-beam axle with 5/10 lugs and disc brakes. Or much of the components from a 3500HD I-beam axle will work just the steering is more complicated. The P30 as a donor is preferred as it has similar to original steering arms.

Have you tried looking at some early F450 beam axles, over here they seem to be more prevalent than P30 ones. They come with twin piston calipers, but smaller rotors than the 3500HD since fords only came with 16" wheel, and either crossover or front back steering setups. The bolt pattern is the same but the center bores are larger than what you have now.

Grigg, does the P30 Front I Beam axle bolt into the 2 Ton COE's?
How about the P30 rear end? New spring perches?

Thanks,
Marty

Marty -- You may have to be patient -- We haven't seen Grigg in a couple of months. I had lunch with his dad not too long ago and he said he was pretty busy. Hopefully he'll check in soon. In the meantime, check out our Tech Tips and keep searching this forum -- your answers are probably lurking around here somewhere. Or someone else might know ...

Thanks,
John

Thanks John,
I found a disc brake Dana 80 out of a Chevrolet Chassis GM motor home with 47K miles. 5 Lug for a good price. I'm just trying to ensure that it would work. Right away that should increase my road speed.
Really like to hear from members who have already gone this route

Marty -- as stated in my other post, the Dana 80 swap depends also on your engine/tranny/wheel and tire set up. If you just swap in the axles (with the bigger weehels and tires that go along with them) without also upgrading your engine and tranny ... you will be very disappointed with the results...

Piston Farmer, where are the front end parts that go with the D-80 rear you got?

Understand your point John. But seems to me with that granny gear I can move the truck around just fine with the upgraded rear end with 4.50:1-ish gearing? Is the 235 THAT anemic?

You won't have any problem moving the truck around, the problem is the 235 won't provide enough power to get the full value out of a higher geared rear...you'll run out of steam before you run out of rear. This means you'll be doing a lot of work for little to no top speed gain...
